NIGERIAN Institute of Architects (NIA) has attributed incessant cases of building collapse in Nigeria to entrants of unprofessional into the business of property development. Kaduna State Chapter of the architects’ institute, however, called on the core professional architects, to expand into the business of property development to save the country from the incessant cases of building collapse. Speaking in Kaduna yesterday at the unveiling of the 50th-anniversary celebration logo for NIA Kaduna, the chapter’s spokesman, Arc. James John Fainom said the institute in collaboration with ARCON is serious in the fight against quackery, which is responsible for incessant building collapse in Nigeria. According to Arc. Fainom, “to a large extent, building collapse is attributed to quackery, wrong use of building materials, and substandard building materials. So, strict adherence to the National Building Code will go a long way in curbing the issue of building collapse. “The institute has laid down established criteria to be a registered member: starting from acquiring education in the field of Architecture down to pupillage and Professional Practice Exams (PPE).
