The Empty Nester Wish List
Dear Santa,
If it is at all possible this year, could you please bring us a new house? The old family home seems to be getting larger, the maintenance more intense and the garden, frankly it's killing us! We would like a smaller home on a compact block of land, with a manageable small garden and just enough space for our needs, we are sick of maintaining rooms that we no longer use. We would like a newish home but not too modern and sterile, and with all the charm and comfort we are used to. Location is of prime importance to us, a leafy cul-de-sac in Canterbury would fit the bill and if it opened on to parkland and a walking track, all the better. Close proximity to train and tram would be appreciated, and we would love a convenient shopping centre, one with the charm of Maling Road if you can organise that.
As for the home itself, the main bedroom and ensuite must be downstairs and a powder room would be useful for guests, however we do need a couple of upstairs bedrooms and a family bathroom for grand kids' sleep-overs. One living area would suffice (but must be large enough to host the family on Christmas Day) and an outdoor entertainment area, preferably north facing,
