We (a family with a 9-year-old child) were able to enjoy the last week of April 2022 in this extraordinary architectural pearl. What we were looking for as a holiday home, we had found in Monte das Marés. And even more. The house is situated in the middle of a huge plot of several thousand square meters, far from the road, with old carob, almond and olive trees, a multitude of beautiful bushes, and (now in spring) colourful flower meadows. From the highest point of the property you can see the Atlantic Ocean - wonderful! The owners Nele (a designer with her own studio on the property [cf. her great work and products on sennes.org]) and Fred (architect), who also live on the property, are wonderful, warm, interesting and interested people with an almost inexhaustible number of good tips on what to do, where to eat well or buy great pottery, for example. The property, which we were free to explore, was a fantastic adventure playground for our child. The conversion of the 1904 farmhouse into a holiday home was planned and realised by Fred: The purist-minimalist exterior and interior harmonise impressively with the natural materials (natural stone, terracotta, lime) that have been used in construction in this region for centuries. In our opinion, this holiday home not only delivers what it promises on the website, it is even more beautiful in reality!
What we particularly liked about Monte das Marés:
- the great setting of the house in the middle of nature;
- its architecture and the stylish interior design that has been thought out down to the last detail;
- the absolute silence, even at night;
- the twinkling starry sky;
- a glass of red wine in the evening in front of the warming fireplace;
- the impressive, lovable family dog Chewie, whom we would have liked to adopt right away;
- the incomparable kindness of the hosts
We can recommend Monte das Marés without any ifs and buts and will definitely be back!
