He then went to Munich, where he became a student of Professor Piloty and Józef Brandt. In 1884 he went to Slovakia, where he painted scenes from the life of Slovaks. In 1887, he organized a private exhibition of his Slovak paintings in Turčanský Sv. Martin. He moved to Bulgaria, where in 1897 he became a professor at the painting school in Sofia. From there he sent paintings to exhibitions in Prague, Munich, St. Louis, to Liège, etc. He liked to paint Bulgarian types, Turks, horse markets, rural people in Slovakia, and especially devoted himself to painting horses, hunting, and military scenes.(Toman's Dictionary)
