Netherlands: campaigners call for residence permits for young undocumented people
Dutch civil society organisations, including PICUM member Stichting Los, launched a campaign to call for residence and work permits for young undocumented people who have grown up in the Netherlands. Under current legislation, they are not allowed to work nor continue higher education. The campaign includes a manifesto asking for access to further education and the labour market, which can be signed here.
New report sheds light on violence faced by children reaching Europe via Balkans
Save the Children has published a report that documents the types of physical and psychological violence children on the move face when entering Europe via the so-called Balkan route. The report’s findings are based on the testimonies of numerous 13- to 19-year-old children, collected in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Serbia. Notably, it highlights that all interviewed children had experienced some form of violence themselves and had either witnessed or become victims of violence at hand of border guards.
