European Migration Network maps residence permits linked to health
In a new ad hoc query, the European Migration Network (ENM) maps conditions for issuing residence permits for medical reasons in European countries. ENM notes that Belgium, France, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden allow people to apply for a residence permit if they suffer from serious illness. Ireland does not issue residence permits based on medical reasons, but third-country nationals from visa-required countries may apply for a short-stay visa to come to Ireland for up to 90 days to undergo a medical procedure in a private hospital. In Latvia, a third-country national has the right to request a temporary residence for the period specified in a contract for treatment in a medical institution.
