First, thank you for this question, good questions spark insights guided by prayer. James shares encouragement for righteous thoughts and even more so for good deeds. His letter to the early jewish Christians reminds us even today that the good works are the proof of good faith rather than self gain.
It applies every day to remind us that envy leads us away from truth. Also the display of wealth serves to foster such envy.
The righteous good deeds therefore are the thankless ones. When done by a child of God for the benefit of others and to the glory of god rather than glorifying ourselves.
To do such a good deed without receiving personal glory becomes ever harder in an increasingly ugly transparent society. If there was to be good from anonymity, it would be to provide the means for such thankless goodness. The Lord moves in mysterious ways, but we humans are not prepared for these temptations of anonymity and do wickedness instead.
Were it otherwise, there would be no need for laws, as the laws would be written in our souls. We would be like Angel's, doing only good. This is our plea in the Lords prayer, "on Earth, as it is in Heaven".
