I like that idea to help members quickly "snap to" valued content... but it also opens the door for manipulated content stream like legacy platforms that concern us all. E.g., a tip of $0.10 might be a large tip for me given my economic status, whereas $50 might be low for one the billionaires in the community.
Tough dilemma, cash is, obviously, a clean and unit of value that lets you measure content's contribution to the total economy (using<a class="mention" href="/@unwriter">@unwriter</a> 's terms of art) -- and a signal that cost something -- but conflating it with value beyond $ could be misguided direction. Maybe the idea of trend or # of clicks, comments, etc. may be a better dive-in tool. Right now we have portals to people we follow (home), random new stuff (latest), top rated people to consider following (discover).
Sorting through 'latest' will become non-value added soon as more people join on and post nothing but quotes and memes. Seems like we need a way to discover content without discovering (aka, following) specific profiles. Not a social media guy (don't even have Twitter or anything) -- so, I'm sure these guys have thought through all this...
