This is just my personal thought, but I think it would be nice if the channel description was shorter and explicit about what kind of people you're trying to gather.
The people who skim the description should be able to quickly grasp:
1. What kind of content they expect to see when they subscribe
2. What kind of content they should contribute with
3. Overall, what kind of environment you're trying to create
Maybe thinking of this as as an online house party where you invite like minded people, may help with thinking about how to do this.
Also, it would be definitely helpful to invite some seed members you already know who are willing to contribute to the topic, even if it's just a couple of users. That way new users will not be afraid to contribute either. If the channel only had your posts, people may feel like they're invading your space and will not want to contribute.
