Esl students may need more explicit and practice opportunities to develop their skills. Underrepresented students may have additional academic, social, or financial needs, including having a first generation college experience.
In an effort to encourage students to work with their counselors during the early action and early decision application processes, we offer several collaborative alternative options to enrich their applications.
Examples include providing the counselor with additional transcripts, a letter from the student's advisor, an essay, or an advising letter.Coursework can be an important part of a student's education in choosing an area of study and in planning a graduate program.
These options allow the counselor to include important material that may have been overlooked during the normal application process.For students taking courses during the 2015-2016 school year, graduate coursework is identified on ubars graduate course attribute list for each subject in the ubar that shows where the course meets or exceeds the graduate credit graduate level recommendation.
Courses that are not directly course-related that meet this criteria include: classes and workshops that focus on professional development, such as:Coursework in the counseling field is reflective of transferability into related fields. Historically, a counselor was a teacher, and college education is often the first step in becoming a teacher.
