YouTube launches local portal in Senegal

Google has launched a Senegalese version of the YouTube video sharing portal, youtube.sn, Sud Quotidien reports. The launch ceremony on 12 July was attended by the country's culture and tourism minister, international recording artist Youssou Ndour. Tidjane Deme, head of Google for Fancophone Africa, said that local content was a key element in the company's mission of making the internet more pertinent in sub-saharan Africa. Google has already launched local versions of YouTube in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Nigera and Ghana.
