Use Play Music on mobile or computer

You can listen to music you've added on Google Play or find new music using the Google Play Music web player or the Google Play Music app.

Google Play Music streaming quality (bit rate) depends on the speed of your Internet connection. If you have a faster connection, you can play music at up to 320Kbps.

Use the menu for each song or album

To get started with Google Play Music:

  1. Select a song or album name for details.
  2. Select the Menu icon Music 3-dots menu. If you're on the web player, you'll need to hover over a song or album to see the Menu icon.
  3. Within each menu, review the options available for that piece of music.

Set up your music preferences

Select your favorite genres and artists

If you haven't already, you can improve your recommendations on Google Play Music by telling us about your favorite genres and artists.

Find music based on your preferences

You can find music on the Home section based on what you've listened to, artists you like, and music that you've purchased on Google Play. As you listen to more music on Google Play, you'll get better recommendations.

To visit Home:

  1. Open the Google Play Music web player or the Google Play Music app Google Play Music Icon.
  2. Select the Menu icon Google Play Music Menu icon > Home.
Rate songs on your computer

You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down rating to let Google Play know your preferences. When you give a song a thumbs up rating, it appears in your Thumbs up auto-playlist. When you give a song a thumbs down rating, you won't see recommendations for that song anymore.

Rate a song

  1. Hover over the song you want to rate.
  2. Select the thumbs up or thumbs down icon that appears thumbs down.
  3. To remove a rating, select the thumbs up or thumbs down icon again.

Rate multiple songs

  1. Press and hold the Ctrl (PC) or Command (Mac) key.
  2. Select the songs you'd like to rate.
  3. At the top of your screen, select the Menu icon Music 3-dots menu.
  4. Select thumbs up or thumbs down thumbs down.
  5. To remove the rating, select the Delete icon Play Music web delete icon.

Rate a range of songs

  1. Press and hold the Shift key.
  2. Select the first and last song you'd like to rate.
  3. At the top of your screen, select the Menu icon Music 3-dots menu.
  4. Select thumbs up or thumbs down thumbs down.
  5. To remove the rating, select the Delete icon Play Music web delete icon.
Rate songs on your mobile device

  1. When listening to a song, touch the bar with the song name across the bottom of your screen.
  2. Touch the thumbs up or thumbs down icon thumbs down.
  3. To remove a rating, touch the thumbs up or thumbs down icon again.

Find your Thumbs-up auto-playlist

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Google Play Music Icon.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Google Play Music Menu icon > Music library.
  3. Swipe to the "Playlists" menu.

Control your music

Use keyboard shortcuts

To view available keyboard shortcuts:

  1. Open the Google Play Music web player.
  2. When you're viewing the web player window, type a ?. To make a ?, press and hold the Shift and / keys.
  3. Review the screen that appears.
Use Android Wear

When music is playing on your phone, you'll see a music card on your watch. You can pause, play, and skip tracks. You can't turn this card off.
