After months of negotiations, HBO’s flagship drama series Game Of Thrones has been renewed for a seventh season ahead of its Season 6 premiere this Sunday. The size of the order has not been announced amid speculation that the series was considering shorter Season 7 and 8 final seasons.
Also picked up are comedies Veep for a sixth season and Silicon Valley for fourth. All three series’ previous seasons have been 10 episodes each. This represents the entire HBO Sunday lineup, which returns on Sunday, and the network’s strongest and most acclaimed current series. GOT and Veep are reigning Emmy winners for best drama and comedy series.
For Veep, the renewal is a validation as its upcoming fifth season is the first without creator/original showrunner Armando Iannucci.
GOT is executive produced by creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as well as Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield.
Silicon Valley was created by Mike Judge & John Altschuler & Dave Kinsky; executive producers are Judge, Alec Berg, Michael Rotenberg and Tom Lassally.
Veep is executive produced by new showrunner David Mandel, star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Frank Rich, Chris Godsick, and Lew Morton.
What will become of HBO after Game of Thrones ? shorter Season nuts !
WESTWORLD!!!!!!!
Of course GOT was picked up. HBO isn’t that stupid. Best series they have by far
Bizarre that they didn’t pick-up S8 at the same time. I wonder why not. Negotiations still ongoing?
HBO has a ton of leverage in these talks (because they have the IP riggts/approvals) and the showrunners know they’ll get replaced in the event of creative missteps. One season at a time.
