Nintendo's most recent Direct presentation focused solely on Smash, and for good reason: Smash is good. People want Smash. It's the ultimate Smash Bros. experience, so calling it Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was a good call on Nintendo's part, in my opinion. With the news Castlevania's Simon Belmont and his descendant Richter are joining the fray, along with Chrom, Dark Samus, and King K.Rool December seems like it will never get here.

But that means you have plenty of time to prepare your body (and your gaming station) for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. entry on Switch. For starters Nintendo, being the savvy company that it is, is reissuing Smash-themed GameCube controllers with a Switch adapter. With every character ever returning to Smash, there are going to be some people climbing out of the woodwork to get back into the action. This list should help you welcome in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate future in which we all soon will live.

Guess what? Nintendo GameCube controller support is officially back for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That means you can dig out your old GC controllers and get yourself reacquainted with them (assuming you ever put them away in the first place). Nintendo's official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate GameCube controllers are available for preorder right now. Amazon only allows one per customer, but Best Buy lets you order 3 per customer, so you can fill out your GameCube controller roster with a little retailer jumping.

Also, Nintendo quietly added support for the Wii U GameCube controller adapter a few months ago and acted like they didn't know why (you scamps). If you still have one from Super Smash Bros. Wii U, it will work with your Nintendo Switch.

All those GameCube controllers aren't very useful without the official Nintendo Switch GameCube controller adapter. This is basically the Wii U GameCube adapter given new life. If you have all this stuff kicking around from the Wii U days, it carries over. Bonus: if you have your Nintendo Wavebird and receiver, it also works. Score.

We already know every playable Smash character is returning for Super Smash Bros. on Switch, but there's plenty of time left for even more additions to the roster. What insanity awaits us before the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate December 7 release date? Amazon is probably your best buying option, thanks to its standard Amazon Prime preorder discount.

If you prefer your Super Smash Bros. Switch experience in one quick and easy bundle, GameStop has a bundle that includes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, GameCube controller and GameCube controller adapter.

amiibo

Yes, there are new amiibo. And yes, they are awesome. Each new wave of amiibo brings better detail to the line. We've come a long way from those first releases, when Link was suspended on a translucent yellow stand. The latest crop of amiibo are among the best looking, but they're also a little more expensive than earlier lines. Hopefully we get all the returning characters announced, and the new characters, in amiibo form sooner rather than later. But for now, there are just 3.

Nintendo Switch

This is a crucial ingredient for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate experience: a Nintendo Switch to play it on. Hopefully Nintendo releases a limited edition Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Switch bundle like it did with the Splatoon 2 Switch and Super Mario Odyssey Switch. Those were some quality bundles, with cool color schemes. Nintendo, if you're reading this, please release a special edition Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch bundle.

TCL 55R617 55-Inch 4K TV

007TCL

The Nintendo Switch isn't a 4K console, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't upgrade anyway. Maybe it's a little silly recommending a new TV to play Smash. Should we recommend you buy a house, too? Or enough food to survive until December? Look - all we're saying is the same thing IGN Deals has been saying all year - the prices on 4K sets have come down so much now is a good time to consider upgrading. This is TCL's latest model and it's great. In fact, in our TCL 55R617 review, we gave it a 9 out of 10.

Here are some other TV options for you to consider for your Super Smash Bros. needs:

Big Joe Bean Bag Chairs, Assorted Colors

You've invited over three of your friends to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the couch is only for champions. What's a person to do? Keep a slew of bean bag chairs on hand and you have instant Super Smash Bros. tournament seating. Bonus: take some of the stuffing out of one of the chairs and designate it for the fourth-place finisher.

Kleenex Facial Tissues

What would a night of Super Smash Bros. be without some tears? With an already packed roster, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is going to cause some hurt feelings, so keep a box of tissues on hand to dab away those salty tears.
