Let's smash that £250 🎯 2015 was the year I nearly met my maker. My medical team gave me 3 days. Haemoglobin counts were virtually non-existent, and white cell counts were through the roof. To soften the blow, they called it acute anaemia! Before that, I was fit, without any underlying health problems. With that news, critical moments in my relatively short time on earth flashed before my eyes. My 8-year-old was nearly left fatherless. Our very successful practice had grown exponentially and needed steering. My parents almost lost a son. I've not talked about this chapter of my life publicly, but since my diagnosis - it saddens me that 1 out of every 2 people I’ve met is either a survivor or has lost a loved one to this dreaded disease. I wish I could say that I’m cured. Unfortunately, I cannot. What’s keeping me alive is exceptional cancer research and the work of brilliant researchers. Many like me wouldn't be here to tell the tale without their groundbreaking work. During November, I won't be growing a tash, I won’t be running 10k, I won’t be on a spiritual retreat (these are all brilliant causes, too) - I will be doing 100 press-ups every day. That's 3,000 in the month of November. Countdown to Impact: 5 Days Left in the April Head and Neck Cancer Alliance Move-a-thon 🏃♀️🙏 As the sun sets on this pivotal month, our shared journey of compassion and support takes on a more urgent pace. There are just 5 days left to contribute to a cause that’s much more than a statistic; it's a lifeline for those battling head and neck cancer. I set out with an ambition – a concise, yet significant goal of raising $150 through the Move-a-thon. This sum symbolizes hope – the equivalent of a night at a hotel for a travelling patient or easing the burden covering some essentials on treatment day. The number of people who are diagnosed with BRCA cancers in Canada continues to be of concern to the Annie Parker Foundation. Well, this isn’t exactly work related but I’ll show you how it can be at the end of the post: I’m cycling to raise money to help fight children’s cancer. This fundraiser goes on from September 1st to the end of September but I wanted to go ahead and share this in case anyone is interested in donating. Here’s the deets: cancer takes 38 children each day. Many of my friends are parents, so I’m sure you all can understand how heartbreaking a cancer diagnosis is on a family, especially for a child. Money raised here is for the Children's Cancer Research Fund which creates safer treatments, improves outcomes for kids, and supports the whole family as we strive to end childhood cancer. Children's Cancer Research Fund is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, Tax ID Number 41-1893645. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent permissible by law. How this works for me: I’m cycling on my bike. I’m going to be wearing some GCC (this event) swag to help spread awareness. I am also committing to cycling at least 100 miles in September to help spread awareness. If we pass my donation goal, I will add 1 mile for every additional dollar donated (it just might take me longer than September to make it happen, endurance is not my strong suit). Here’s how this relates to you and your job: a lot of employers will match donations, some up to certain amount, others indefinitely. If you’ve ever wanted to change someone’s life, this is your opportunity and your employer might make it even easier for you to do so by matching your donation.
