Children’s developing bodies and minds are uniquely vulnerable to pollution, deadly diseases and extreme weather events. Countries must protect children, empower them to be #ClimateAction champions and urgently reduce emissions.

Orlando Bloom interacts with children in a UNICEF-supported treatment unit for malnutrition in DR Congo. "I met two-year-old Christine at this clinic, and she is at risk of severe malnutrition. The doctor gave her a ready-to-eat therapeutic food packet made of peanut paste. Not only did she really like it, it seemed to give her immediate energy," shares our Goodwill Ambassador. "At the same clinic, I saw women receiving a cooking demonstration on an open fire to learn how to prepare a tasty and nutritious children's porridge made from inexpensive and locally available ingredients. This porridge helps stave off malnutrition and is a true life-saver." "Child malnutrition in DR Congo is a critical concern because of the ongoing conflict and resulting food crisis. Almost nine out of 10 children in the region do not receive the minimum diet necessary for healthy growth." "UNICEF and partners are providing nutrition screening, guidance and treatment. But the children of DR Congo need peace for their well-being." 📷 © UNICEF/Tremeau

3.6 million children in Sudan are acutely malnourished. Extreme hunger is unfolding. Famine is quickly closing in on millions of people in the country. Children are bearing the brunt of the violence and war in Sudan, now in its second year. UNICEF is on ground providing life-saving services, including nutrition guidance and supplies, health screening and treatment for children. With partners, UNICEF calls on parties to conflict to protect civilians, facilitate unimpeded humanitarian access, stop human rights violation, de-escalate the situation in Al Fasher and adopt a nationwide ceasefire. #ForEveryChild, protection.

"I'm in the DR Congo for my very first time. Ongoing conflict in this country is causing a massive displacement of people, the majority of whom are children and women." - UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Orlando Bloom. "Because of the ongoing violence, children are being exposed to horrors they should never experience in their lives. This includes children who have been separated from their parents, making them extremely vulnerable to sexual violence and exploitation, as well as recruitment by armed groups." "With partners, UNICEF is providing life-saving services, including safe spaces for children, health and nutrition services and an opportunity for an education." "I wish nothing more for these children than peace and protection." Stay tuned for more on Orlando Bloom's visit to DR Congo.
