Ensuring the broadly defined concept of security in the 21 st century became a responsibility of everyone, both of those who represent government and local government branches and those who operate within non-governmental organizations. Entities which, alongside governmental institutions, actively engage in the operations to ensure safety are non-governmental organizations. In a democratic society, they are basis for the development of local communities and improvement of local security, as they often incorporate most active citizens of certain environments who are sensitive to social matters. They are also an opinion-forming factor at the state's legislative level, at the same time being a significant element in the decision-making process at lower levels.

The Syrian crisis has generated the largest refugee movement since the Rwandan genocide and is described as the defining refugee crisis of our era. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, Syrian refugees are about to replace Afghans as the world’s largest refugee population. 1 Within this refugee population older, disabled and injured refugees face specific challenges that contribute to their vulnerability, yet, studies of humanitarian programming show that these same groups are often neglected in the assessment, data collection, design and delivery of responses. Krízové javy sú súčasťou nášho každodenného života a v poslednom období vyžadujú podrobnejšie riešenie eliminácie ich negatívnych dôsledkov na ľudí, prírodu a spoločnosť ako celok. Všetky fázy krízového riadenia, obzvlášť fáza reakcie, kladú čoraz vyššie nároky na stále rozsiahlejšie a náročnejšie procesy rozhodovania krízových manažérov. Cieľom tohto článku je poukázať na efektívnejšie krízové riadenie na úrovni miestnej štátnej správy za účelom optimalizácie rozhodovacích procesov. V článku je aplikovaná analytická viacúrovňová metóda operačnej analýzy využívajúca softvérovú podporu, ktorá umožňuje orgánom krízového riadenia vybrať optimálny variant riešenia krízových javov.

The experience of the Pedernales earthquake on April 16, 2016, identified the need to know the components of the State in terms of possible natural threats. How to exploit the resources of these components and distribute them in emergencies in natural scenarios, prior to a decision-making process that optimizes damage mitigation works.
The Ecuadorian Armed Forces have their constitutional mission, as mentioned in Art 158 of the Constitution of Ecuador. Its human composition, technological resources, equipment and training, provide special characteristics such as: Flexibility, Opportunity, Scope, Speed and Efficiency; The same ones that are essential when reacting to a situation of risk.
During the post-earthquake process, the Armed Forces are mainly involved in Working Group No. 5 "Integral Security of Population", however, as mentioned above, the logistics and training of military personnel, empowered them to collaborate in all working groups. Thus: group 1 coordinated water distribution plants, group 2 was coordinated mobile military hospitals, group 3 were assigned professionals from the Army Corps of Engineers and the University of the Armed Forces - ESPE for the evaluation of infrastructure, group 4 worked with military shelters and distribution of food and supplies, group 6 in the security of the spaces destined for productivity and livelihoods of the affected population, group 7 in the protection of the community and the lifting of affectations and the group 8 in the evaluation, supervision and safety of the hydrocarbon sector, electric power plants and water purification.
Finally, the Armed Forces currently collaborate with their contingent on the information obtained to transmit it as inputs to take the pertinent correctives. As the modification of the Ecuadorian Construction Standard with the feedback from the Army Corps of Engineers, the identification of the main constructive problems of the affected areas and the experiences of the construction methods that were not damaged (Puente de “Los Caras”) by Part of the University of the Armed Forces. The mobilization of a large military contingent to guarantee the safety of the population.

disminuir o remediar las amenazas y los riesgos que influyen en la Nación en contexto de emergencias naturales o antrópicas.
Su composición humana, sus recursos tecnológicos, su equipamiento,
capacitación y entrenamiento, le proporcionan características especiales como: Flexibilidad, Oportunidad, Alcance, Rapidez y Eficiencia; las mismas que son imprescindibles al reaccionar frente a una situación de riesgo.
El apoyo a los efectos de los desastres naturales tiene su origen desde
el nacimiento mismo de las Fuerzas Armadas Ecuatorianas, siendo su
naturaleza de enfrentamiento y resolución, más que de prevención y planificación.
El empleo de las Fuerzas Armadas responde a la crisis como
efecto del desastre, pero no está bajo su responsabilidad preverlas; para
ello están otras instancias del Estado.
Sin embargo, existe ejemplos claros como: la participación en el desastre del Deslizamiento en “La Josefina” en 1993, la actuación militar
en todas las etapas del Terremoto de Bahía de Caráquez de 1998, las
acciones de prevención en las alertas de peligro eruptivo en los Volcanes Tungurahua y Reventador, entre muchos más casos.
En el Ecuador, las Fuerzas Armadas. forman parte activa y permanente
en el Sistema Nacional de Gestión de Riesgos, quien asigna la
responsabilidad en la mesa N°5 de “Seguridad Integral de la Población”.
Las experiencias previas, ya citadas, en el apoyo durante las catástrofes
y desastres ocurridos en el Ecuador, han permitido visualizar que la integración de los recursos humanos y logísticos de las Fuerzas Armadas es importante en todos los niveles y estamentos de respuesta y reacción.

Effectively managing disasters and emergencies is the responsibility of local and state government, with the federal government serving as a source of support. In Oregon, state law requires the establishment of emergency management agencies. These agencies must: create and maintain current emergency operations plans; establish “an incident command structure for management of a coordinated response by all local emergency service agencies”; and “integrate effective practices in emergency preparedness and response as provided in the National Incident Management System (NIMS).” Multnomah County Office of Emergency Management (MCEM) is responsible for ensuring these required minimum functions are accomplished through leveraging the breadth of knowledge, skills, and abilities of all County staff. MCEM is divided into two divisions, Operations and Planning. While the Planning Division contributes tremendously to disaster resilience through hazard mitigation efforts, planning frameworks for both response and recovery efforts, this capstone focuses on the role of the Operations Division in ensuring an integrated and coordinated disaster response. 
During emergency and disaster response, counties rely on mutual aid agreements with other counties and traditional first responder organizations. During disasters that impact a small or local geographic area, these agreements bring in assistance from neighboring jurisdictions and supplement the existing workforce. However, when disasters span large geographic regions, these neighboring jurisdictions are engaged in disaster response themselves and are unable to provide assistance. Regardless of the emergency or disaster, Multnomah County government is required to maintain a comprehensive and effective continuity of county operations that allows for the provision of critical services.,
Although Oregon law lists many forms of emergency, including among others a “[f]ire, explosion, flood, severe weather, landslides or mud slides,” as well as, “disease, blight, infestation, civil disturbance, riot, sabotage, acts of terrorism and war,” the natural disaster that is most threatening to the Pacific Northwest is the Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake (CSZ-EQ). Scientific study, and mention in a New Yorker article, have earned this looming disaster infamy with the public. The CSZ-EQ is on a scale of significantly different magnitude than other disasters. With the potential to extend from Northern California to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, the CSZ-EQ is frequently referred to by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and others as a catastrophic disaster whose occurrence is considered a certainty. In fact, according to The Oregon Resilience Plan: Reducing Risk and Improving Recovery for the Next Cascadia Earthquake and Tsunami, “[t]he calculated odds that a Cascadia earthquake will occur in the next 50 years range from 7-15 percent for a great earthquake affecting the entire Pacific Northwest to about 37 percent for a very large earthquake affecting southern Oregon and northern California.” Chris Goldfinger, a PhD professor at Oregon State University, is one of the leading scientists studying this massive earthquake. He notes that although we cannot predict when it will unleash its impacts across the region, we can study regional earthquake history and the intervals between ruptures. According to this evidence, “[p]erhaps more striking than the probability numbers is that we can now say that we have already gone longer without an earthquake than 75 percent of the known times between earthquakes in the last 10,000 years, and 50 years from now, that number will rise to 85 percent."
Expectations are that the CSZ-EQ impacts will overwhelm local resources, outstrip traditional mutual aid partners, and incapacitate critical infrastructure for months or years. Injuries and deaths are expected across three states (California, Oregon, and Washington), with estimates for deaths in Oregon alone anticipated to reach as high as 10,000. The appropriate prioritization and allocation of scarce resources by government plays a critical role in effective disaster response. This will only be accomplished by a quick and efficient response from public servants. Protecting entire communities from suffering devastating losses will depend on a prepared, empowered, competent, and confident workforce.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of County government to provide training and support that creates a workforce poised in a disaster-ready posture. As the Division Chief of Operations for Multnomah County’s Office of Emergency Management, it is my role to ensure this is accomplished. A review of literature reveals that even traditional first response agencies, like the fire service, have surprisingly low levels of personal and family preparedness, a key factor in the willingness and ability to respond to a disaster. The Ready Responder toolkit quotes a 2004 survey of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy, in which “only 34% of the departments they represented had taken steps to prepare themselves and their families for the implications of a multi-day disaster response.” 
Research also indicates a correlation between an individual’s understanding of their role and their likelihood to respond. While county staff demonstrate an intrinsic motivation for the services they provide and an understanding of their role as a safety net for the community on a daily basis, they are navigating a much less defined path toward the fulfillment of their critical roles in disaster response. Therefore, while local governments have statutory responsibilities and arguably ethical responsibilities to prepare in order to protect their communities from known potential disasters, the reality is that emergency management is a relatively new field, and there is much to learn and implement to help create a response-ready workforce.
This capstone explores lessons learned from past disasters, both locally and across the country, and includes a review of related literature. A synthesis of the practices most relevant to Multnomah County has been captured in the Disaster Service Worker Project Charter (Appendix A). This Charter serves as my workplan and provides action steps for Multnomah County leadership and my middle managers colleagues to adequately prepare the over 6,000 public employees, working across eight departments and nearly 40 divisions, for their pivotal disaster response and recovery roles and responsibilities. The Disaster Service Worker Project Charter provides clear guidelines for filling the gaps that currently exist, with an end goal of creating a catastrophic disaster readiness posture across Multnomah County government.

Nach einem Überblick über Aufdeckung und Verlauf des Skandals und die Entwicklung hin zu einer schwerwiegenden Unternehmenskrise wird das Kommunikationsverhalten von VW gegenüber der Öffentlichkeit anhand mehrerer Pressemitteilungen und eines Videostatements analysiert, in denen sich VW zu Beginn der Krise äußerte. Eine kritischer Abgleich mit Modellen zur erfolgreichen Krisenprävention und -bewältigung zeigt, an welchen Stellen der Konzern durch gezielte Kommunikationsmaßnahmen dem Vertrauensschwund seiner Kunden und Partner zumindest hätte entgegenwirken und so die Krise abmildern können.

Ο πολίτης, κάποια στιγμή στην ζωή του αποφασίζει αβίαστα και με ελεύθερη βούλησή του να γίνει Εθελοντής Διασώστης. Δηλαδή, πέραν των τετριμμένων που ο αναγνώστης γνωρίζει, ο πολίτης αποφασίζει να αφήσει την κανονική του ζωή, την βόλεψή του και την ηρεμία του και να διακινδυνεύσει την υγεία του και την ζωή του σε αποστολές που εμπεριέχουν την επικινδυνότητα σε μέγιστο βαθμό. Οι άνθρωποι όμως του περιβάλλοντός του στην οικογένεια, στην εργασία, στα ευχάριστα ενδιαφέροντα, στις παρέες, θα εξακολουθήσουν να είναι απασχολημένοι με την καθημερινότητά τους. Και ενώ η επερχόμενη καταστροφή θα τους βρει όλους απροετοίμαστους και θα τους αποδιοργανώσει έως μεταβάλλει ολοκληρωτικά, ο Εθελοντής Διασώστης θα είναι ήδη έτοιμος από καιρό. Θα είναι αυτός στον οποίο θα καταφύγουν όλοι για βοήθεια, αυτός που θα διαχειριστεί άμεσα επείγουσες ανάγκες, αυτός που θα συντονίσει και θα κινητοποιήσει δυνάμεις αρωγής.

Ο Εθελοντής Διασώστης θα θέσει την ζωή του σε κίνδυνο στον τόπο της καταστροφής, θα θέσει την υγεία του σε κίνδυνο λόγω επιδημιών και δυσμενών κλιματολογικών συνθηκών, θα θέσει την ψυχική του υγεία σε κίνδυνο λόγω των τραυματικών εμπειριών που θα βιώσει από κοντά. Θα αρρωστήσει, θα τραυματιστεί, θα φοβηθεί, θα αντιμετωπίσει πιθανό πρόβλημα διατροφής λόγω έλλειψης ή μόλυνσης τροφίμων, θα θλιβεί στην θέα νεκρών, ακρωτηριασμένων, απανθρακωμένων, θα αγχωθεί από την έλλειψη φαρμάκων και επαρκούς βοήθειας στον τόπο της καταστροφής, Αλλά θα είναι εκεί· όρθιος, έτοιμος, ενεργός.

Το εγχειρίδιο αυτό, αποτελεί μια πρώτη προσπάθεια στην Ελλάδα,  για τις εθελοντικές οργανώσεις πολιτικής προστασίας και επιχειρεί να δώσει σε κάθε ενδιαφερόμενο, εξειδικευμένες γνώσεις σχετικά με τον σωστό, αποτελεσματικό και ασφαλή τρόπο σχεδιασμού μιας επιχείρησης διάσωσης. Αποτελεί ενίσχυση των γνωσιακών ικανοτήτων των Εθελοντών Διασωστών και συμπληρωματικό εκπαιδευτικό υλικό των γενικών και ειδικών σπουδών στον τομέα της αντιμετώπισης καταστροφών. Η ύλη του δεν είναι αυτοπεριοριστική, αλλά οδηγεί τον ενδιαφερόμενο να διευρύνει.

Any global crisis is expected to affect every human being, but for women it is always twice as hard. In the case of Covid-19, women are more affected across every domain, from social protection to health, simply because if their gender. This research explores the impact of Covid-19 on women, both economically and socially, with the focus on the case of Egypt. It explores the systematic gender inequalities in the economic, social, and health spheres using cases from previous crises, and how this gender inequality and vulnerability has resulted in much worse consequences of Covid-19 than that of men. The primary research focuses on women in upper/middle classes, and aimed to answer, as we emerge from this pandemic, how can we prevent it from excavating the existing gender inequalities?
The primary research displayed that the pandemic’s impact was felt deeply and added a strain women, however it is also important to point out that it also portrayed some positive changes especially in household dynamics. Concluding that the imbedded gender stereotypes that add pressures on women are not related to social or economic class, they are deep rooted in society and will only change, if the younger generation change those ideals and recognize the role of women as an active agent in the development process of the society.
The research also examined the Egyptian Covid-19 response plan in comparison to other countries and overall, the Egyptian response plan reflected a new gender-sensitive strategy that is very apparent in almost all the policies. Egypt addressed issues like unpaid care work, and increasing in cash benefits to female-headed households, and micro financing to women entrepreneurs, which was not the case for many countries

There are many questions that people need answers for, and the timely dissemination of information is important to save lives, reduce trauma, and facilitate smooth relief and rehabilitation works. Good communication is also required to enhance the relationship among the government, national and international organisations, and the civil society—before, during, and after a disaster. The field of Disaster Management studies in South Africa has gone through significant changes over the past fifteen years. A tour to Europe, during 1990, by the Disaster Management Institute of Southern Africa (formerly the Civil Defence Association of South Africa) resulted in the disaster management modules of the United Nations Disaster Relief Organisation (UNDRO) being made available to practitioners in South Africa.

The introduction of the UNDRO disaster management modules, after the tour to Europe, has resulted in an emphasis change in Disaster Management legislation (formerly called Civil Defence) from pre-disaster preparedness and post-disaster reaction to a focus on mitigation and sustainable development. The United Nations publications “Living with Risk. A global review of disaster reduction initiatives” and “Reducing Disaster Risk. A challenge for development” has since their publication, in 2002 and 2004 respectively, influenced disaster management practitioners to concentrate on reducing disaster risks, in order to create a safe environment to live in, for South Africans.

Disaster risk reduction, addressed by the two United Nations publications mentioned above, considers the impact of current development decisions on future generations while addressing disaster risks faced by communities. The United Nations, established the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) at the beginning of the 2000 calendar year. This was preceded by the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) and followed by various summits including the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg during 2002.

The end of the IDNDR led to the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) as a focus for disaster management risk reduction. Together with the international trends in disaster management, the South African Government passed legislation ensuring that all communities and stakeholders were able to share in developing a disaster free environment.

The Municipal Systems Act, 32 of 2000, provides a framework for participation by the stakeholders of a municipality in the sustainable development of that municipality through the development of an integrated development plan. The Municipal Systems Act, 32 of 2000 stipulates the inclusion of disaster management plans as a core component of an integrated development plan, but provides no guidelines for the development of disaster management plans.

The research aim is to develop a standard manner of presenting the municipal disaster management plans to stakeholders. The format of the disaster management plans should be uncomplicated to read, as many people in South Africa are illiterate and semi-literate (Statistics South Africa: General Household Survey, July 2003. http://www.statssa.gov.za/publications/P0318/P03182003.pdf. Accessed: 3 July 2004.) A complete set of disaster management plans is a record of all policies and actions to be taken to mitigate, prepare for or respond to a disaster or impending disaster. Disaster management plans, that are included in an integrated development plan of a municipality, should provide sufficient detail for discussion and adoption by stakeholders, who participate in the approval process of that integrated development plan.

The contribution of the study is to provide a framework that can be utilised to report municipal disaster management plans to its stakeholders.

Si en cualquier tipo de sector la crisis es una situación siempre propensa a ocurrir, en el turismo, que es un sistema conformado por un conjunto de diversos sectores, la crisis es un hecho con el que se lidia casi a diario. Gobiernos, empresas y sujetos del turismo están siempre propensos a ser afectados por el conflicto que se pudo haber originado en cualquiera de los componentes de este sistema o por el conflicto que ellos mismos causaron.

This research looked into the experiences of survivors in the wake of Typhoon Ondoy. Using positive psychology as a framework for understanding community survival and resilience in disaster situations, we examined the positive characteristics among members of a community that was severely affected by the typhoon. Based on focus group discussions, ten positive characteristics were identified as both resources and outcomes in the disaster experience. These were: (1) adaptation to nature, (2) empathy, care and concern for the other, (3) collective responsibility for each other, (4) trust, (5) endurance, (6) cheerfulness and sense of humor, (7) courage and bravery in the midst of fear, (8) resourcefulness, (9) gratitude, and (10) faith in God. Results were discussed in the light of positive action and future implications for capacity-building in disaster management and interventions.

According to His Holiness, the practical reasons were behind the decision. The election of the new Patriarch in February 2021 caused an avalanche of media inquiries for interviews with the new head of the SOC. In other words, media outlets absorbed up too much time and energy during that year. Also, Patriarch Porphyry pointed out the constant need of today’s media sphere for news and comments on certain events that are not of essential importance for the Serbian Orthodox Church (mainly political topics) and its believers, i.e., for the inner life of the Church.

However, the political circumstances in Europe have changed, and drastically so.

Unlike other global natural-, industrial- and intentional disasters of the past, if any impact was felt in South Africa, it was due to uncertainty within the tourism sector and guests being hesitant to travel. COVID-19 has had an economic and catastrophic impact on hospitality businesses, and particularly in the South African hospitality industry, resulting in changes in how the industry operates. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether reactions to lockdown and the subsequent collapse of domestic and international travel should have been approached differently, and what hospitality leaders anticipate for the near future of the industry. The significance of the study is to highlight that better planning should have occurred to have reduced the negative impact of the disaster. Nicaragua es uno de los países del Hemisferio Occidental con mayor vulnerabilidad al cambio climático. A la par de la vulnerabilidad ambiental, se suma la ausencia de la infraetructra adecuada para hacer frente a los desastres naturales. Después del Huracán Mitch en 1998, el país inició un proceso de mejoramiento de sus capacidades de prevención, mitigación y atención de desastres que llevaron a la creación de un Sistema Nacional que ha venido funcionando con moderadas capacidades. Sin embargo, en el ámbito municipical, esas capacidades son aún muy limitadas. En ese sentido, he elaborado este “Protocolo Modelo para Gestión de Riesgos y Desastres Naturales en Municipios Rurales de Nicaragua” como un aporte para los municipios de mayor vulnerabilidad ante desastres naturales en Nicaragua. Este documento pretende responder, al menos parcialmente, a la pregunta: ¿Cómo pueden las agencias de desarrollo, apoyar a los municipios de mayor vulnerabilidad en situación de desastres?

Al respecto, el presente protocolo de actuación, presenta una breve reseña sobre la situación actual de amenaza y vulnerabilidad de los municipios y establece las principales acciones que se  podrían desarrollar, desde una agencia de cooperación o programa de desarrollo municipal. Con este fin, se sugieren roles y responsabilidades del equipo técnico en cada uno de los componentes que podrían formar parte de un plan operativo anual, tanto para aquellas acciones preventivas como aquellas post y durante. El propósito de este protocolo es el de servir como “modelo” o ejemplo para programas de desarrollo municipal, que bien pueden ser programas del gobierno central o de la cooperación.

Al leer este Protocolo Modelo, es muy importante tener en cuenta que su propósito no es se usado de forma mecánica o directa en todos los municipios que han sido tomados como ejemplo, sino más bien servir de guía o de modelo ilustrativo—especialmente para agencias de cooperación para el desarrollo—que pueda ser adaptado a necesidades particulares de cada municipio. También es importante recordar que ningún programa de desarrollo municipal auspiciado por una agencia de cooperación, sustituye el rol protagónico del estado en la creación de capacidades de respuesta. En ese sentido, el estado—tanto a nivel local como municipal—continúa teniendo la mayor jerarquía a la hora de la toma de decisión, por lo que este protocolo sólo aborda los posibles espacios de acción que tendrían una agencia de cooperación como entidad complementaria a la acción estatal y comunitaria. Finalmente, es justo aclarar que si bien este es un documento técinico, las opiniones o ejemplos son enteramente responsabilidad del autor.

Sustainability issues, given their potential scale of impact and urgency, have captured the imagination of both corporations and academic institutions everywhere. This paper examines how such problems and their potential solutions have been incorporated into higher education, particularly business school education in India. With over 3,600 business schools in the public and private sector, business education in India has proliferated. However, students by and large still remain unexposed to sustainability and disaster management concepts in their curriculum.  The underlying factors for this include, lack of institutional capacity, issues related to faculty motivation and incentives, lack of recruiter interest and limited availability to high quality resource material.  Further, while several schools in India focus on sectors relevant to sustainability, inter-organizational linkages have not developed and business school generally operate independently.  This paper examines the way forward to deeply integrate sustainability principles into the core curriculum of business schools. Measures suggested include creating communities of practice among academia and industry, building a resource base of teaching materials for easy access by faculty, and several measures to strengthen institutional capacity.

Neustále meniace sa prostredie prináša i čoraz väčšie výzvy a požiadavky, ktorým je nevyhnutné prispôsobiť aj systém varovania a vyrozumenia obyvateľstva pri mimoriadnych udalostiach. Tieto výzvy a požiadavky sa mnohokrát odrážajú v koncipovaní nových zásad a postupov. Tieto zlepšujú efektívnosť a účinnosť konkrétnych systémov a procesov. Súčasným trendom v oblasti varovania a vyrozumenia obyvateľstva pri vzniku mimoriadnych udalostí sa stáva softvérová podpora. Softvérová podpora môže byť využívaná vo forme rozličných simulácií, na základe ktorých je možné vhodne skvalitniť rozhodovacie procesy. Cieľom príspevku je poukázať na využiteľnosť softvérovej podpory v oblasti varovania a vyrozumenia obyvateľstva pri vzniku mimoriadnych udalostiach. Autori vyhodnotili súčasné poznatky z riešenej problematiky a poukázali na možnosti využitia softvérového produktu v procese varovania a vyrozumenia obyvateľstva pri vzniku mimoriadnych udalostiach.

In the face of disaster, the affected population calls for the delivery of immediate aid and relief, but that can only be done with effective management. The goal of emergency relief organizations must therefore be to prioritize the improvement of operations through two overarching elements: logistics and the supply-chain. More so, the enhancement and reconceptualization of emergency logistics can potentially lead to better outcomes by extending current practice to a more integrated and appropriate process. To support this, the author of the following paper provides a comprehensive outline of logistics in disaster preparedness and relief. Relevant topics that are discussed include the role of humanitarian logistics, emergency organizations and past disasters, current models of emergency relief logistics, and its challenges and limitations. The author then proposes significant improvements through the appropriate integration of commercial/business logistics concepts and the implementation of solutions that other professionals have implicated. Overall, logistics and supply chain management can serve a vital role in the successful operation of relief agencies, bolstering the overall impact on the transition from crisis to development.

So far, several fascinating and fancy stuff have been imagined by humans. Not all imaginations are bound to happen and could be experienced. However, the current pandemic (COVID-19) seems, and now is set to surpass beyond what a human brain could have imagined. A deep socio-economic scar is in the process of being created and nobody yet knows how deep this wound is going to penetrate. At this juncture, we have congregated to produce a book entitled “Dissecting the COVID-19 Pandemic”,  through the facades of global socio-economic impact.
It is our pleasure to try to compile what we have seen and hence present the factual accounts to the people post February 2020, and for the days to come. It is a history unfolding, an array of events in front of the human kind. Our effort in witnessing, reviewing, compiling, and binding is definitely going to be a memorabilia of the time it has witnessed. It is said that “seeing is believing”, and here, the authors have factually seen and have by now certainly believed that COVID-19 is not just a simple flu. The pandemic crises of COVID-19 has shaken the world, and its impact is multidimensional and has adversely influenced many aspects of human life. Globally, over 22 million people were infected, and over 4.5 million have died in 215 countries, when this book was in the press. The eight chapters of this book cover various facades of the coronavirus crises, plus their impact globally and particularly in Nepal. The information is relevant to many developing countries.
The chapters are written by science scholars,  engineers, media
analysts, development experts, and scientists in allied disciplines in Australia and Nepal. The contributing authors have both knowledge and experiences of Nepal and overseas in the subject matter and have provided evidence-based information. Our publication efforts and contribution to Nepal and Nepali diaspora deserve special mention. We hope this book will generate enough interest and stimulate significant discourses among scholars,  policymakers, and the community at large to advocate for an inclusive health, disaster risk reduction (DRR), diplomacy and migration policy to overcome future pandemic challenges.
