Don't use deprecated message group-oversight-member
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Reported at https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/Please_propagate_changes_of_MediaWiki:Group-oversight-member/es_to_WMF_wikis : as seen at https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AListUsers&username=&group=oversight&limit=100&uselang=qqx , Wikimedia wikis are apparently still using the message key "group-oversight-member", which can no longer be updated because it comes from the Oversight extension which has been disabled (on translatewiki.net too).

The message to use should be group-suppress-member, which is in core.

To do this we have to actually rename the group everywhere

Maybe add the message key to WikimediaMessages because the group actually is calling "Oversighter", not "Suppresser".

If it's easy, I may be able to fix it, but I'll need guidance on what to do/which files edit. Also, new group should still be called oversight or suppresser? Best regards.

Just add the englisch and qqq message key to the WikimediaMessages extension. It has to be oversight, because the user group was not renamed on wmf wikis.

Isn't this now done?

Not actually, see T112147, maybe blocked by WMF-Legal ? Or maybe consensus on Meta RFC needed?

But I believe that this is "don't use message group-oversight-member from the Oversight extension so we can de-deploy it", not "Instead of using the term 'oversight', rename everything to the new standard term 'suppression'" which is a community-facing move (and is currently vetoed, as you say).

Declaring this done, then. Please re-open if I'm wrong (and mark as blocked).
