Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This task is about making the Reply Tool available as an opt-out feature at the ===Phase 3 Wikis listed below

⚠️ Deployment timing

Thursday, 30 September 2021 during the EU Backport and Config training window

Phase 3 Wikis

In T280388, we came to define "Phase 3" wikis as: Small-to-medium Wikipedias, plus all single-language non-Wikipedias (e.g., the Wikiquotes and Wikivoyages) In combination with previous deployments, this means the [Reply] tool will be available at nearly all WMF-hosted wikis except the ones excluded in this table:

Status Wiki
Exclude Commons, Meta-Wiki, mw.org, Wikispecies, English, Finnish, French, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias (we will consider these projects as part of "Phase 4" in T288488)

Requirements

People who meet the criteria below will see the Reply Tool ( read: [ reply ]) when visiting a talk page:

  1. People who are logged in or logged out
  2. People at any of the wikis listed in the ===Phase 3 Wikis section above

People who meet the criteria below will *NOT* see the Reply Tool ( read: [ reply ]) when visiting a talk page:

  1. People at any of the wikis listed in the ===Phase 3 Wikis section above
  2. People who have explicitly disabled the Enable quick replying setting within Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing

  • @ppelberg finalized Deployment timing
  • All ===Requirements are met

Event Timeline

[Excluded are] […] French, Russian, or German-language Wikipedias

(Emphasis mine.) Isn’t the conjunction and? I can’t imagine how alternation would make sense here.

I am recommending that fiwiki be excluded from this group. There is general support, but there are also a few questions in the discussion there. There is no need to rush.

Noted and sounds good, @Whatamidoing-WMF. We'll defer deployment to fi.wiki for now.

I've updated this task description and the phase 4 deployment ticket (T288488#7386776) to reflect the above.
