More than 1 in 3 women face lasting health issues after childbirth, including mental health conditions! Explore a new Series from The Lancet advocating for a life-course approach to women's #health.
More than 1/3 of women experience lasting health problems after childbirth, including mental health conditions. Pregnancy and childbirth are not a single health event that occurs in isolation. They are experienced by women within the broad, rich context of their lives. “In our society, the joy of having a newborn is cherished by everyone, but the pain, physical exertion, psychological trauma, and other sequelae of pregnancy and labour are borne by the mother alone.” – Sayeba Akhter, MAMMS Institute of Fistula and Womens Health, Bangladesh. Explore a Series from The Lancet Global Health–eClinicalMedicine calling for a life-course approach to address women’s individual needs & concerns: https://hubs.li/Q02xxkdz0 #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

What does the latest brain science tell us about becoming an effective #leader? When it comes to how best to develop upcoming leaders, the traditional view is often that they should focus on their area of strength, whether that's analytical thinking, or empathy and creative solutions. Each uses a different brain network, which cannot be active at the same time. But the most effective leaders are able to switch between these two networks in under a second. They're able to do this because they tackle a wide range of challenges, rather than focussing on what comes naturally. In this piece, Ralph de La Vega, Former AT&T Vice Chairman examines what science has to say about creating effective leaders, and why the leaders of tomorrow need to be exposed to a breadth of challenges that will make them better balanced and more agile: http://spkl.io/604844lLC
