Pro-tip for the time to come: You’ll need a mission statement! When you’re moving into unknown territory, you’re learning as you go. This takes decisions, values and assumptions to guide your internal work. But you’ll need to communicate this externally, too. With AI this is obviously hugely important. I’m no AI expert, but I’ve promoted the need for mission statements when doing better engagement and community. Here’s why: - You’re being transparent and therefore worthy of trust - You declare your aims and values while navigating uncertainty - You’re letting people into the decisionmaking proces and invite them to join your mission - You’re accountable This is a brilliant example from the FT. Will it be most-read article on dashboards? No, but that’s not the point. It just needs to be available. And updated, as the mission and learnings evolve. It’s a trust thing.
FT’s editor-in-chief, Roula Khalaf shares her current thinking on the use of generative artificial intelligence in the newsroom. Brilliant example of transparency on editorial values and practices. A prerequisite these days.
