Introduction et traduction en français de l’Histoire des Mongols de Jean de Plancarpin, accompagnée d’une traduction de documents ayant trait au voyage dans l’empire mongol de Jean de Plancarpin (lettres et privilèges missionnaires rédigés par Innocent IV, Histoire des Tartares du frère C. de Bridia, compte-rendu de Benoît de Pologne, extraits de la chronique de Salimbene de Adam avec la réponse au pape du grand-khan Güyük).

The authors publish the findings of the digs on Mellya-Tamak VI temporary settlement belonging to the Chiyalik archaeological culture – one of the most comprehensively studied settlements in this complex of sites. Besides proper Chiyalik materials, some artefacts of Mesolithic-Neolithic, Early Iron Age (Pyany Bor culture) and Early Middle Ages (Kushnarenkovo culture) have been identified here. The Chiyalik stage is represented by debris of a summer camp, with its surface structures, hearths, stones from wall cladding and household pits. The life time of the Chiyalik settlement on the Mellya-Tamak dune can be dated within the thirteenth-fourteenth centuries, as suggested by the authors based on some finds of glass beads with overlaid linear-undulate paste threads and the ceramic complex. As a result of years of research, the authors conclude that the Chiyalik sites were left by the Uralic Ugrians, who were part of the Golden Horde population and were undergoing the process of Islamization and Turkization.

Публикуются результаты раскопок Меллятамакского VI селища чияликской археологической культуры, одного из наиболее полно исследованных поселений этого круга памятников. Кроме собственно чияликских материалов, здесь выявлены артефакты эпохи мезолита-неолита, раннего железного века (пьяноборская культура) и раннего средневековья (кушнаренковская культура). Чияликский этап представлен остатками поселения-летника, к которому относятся наземные сооружения, очаги, камни обкладки стен и хозяйственные ямы. Время существования чияликского поселения на Мелля-Тамакской дюне по находкам стеклянных бус с орнаментом в виде накладных линейно-волнистых пастовых нитей и керамическому комплексу определено авторами в рамках XIII–XIV вв. По результатам многолетних исследований можно заключить, что памятники чияликской культуры оставлены уральскими уграми, входящими в состав населения Золотой Орды и находящимися в этот период в процессе исламизации и тюркизации.

The article discusses the Qonggirad migration to the Jochid ulus in the aftermath of the Mongol conquests as well as the roles the Qonggirad elite played in the Jochid and Khwārazmian political history in the late 13th – early 15th centuries. Based on genealogical and numismatic analyses, this paper, on the one hand, provides insights into the formation and developments of the autonomous Qonggirad power in Khwārazm in the second half of the 14th century and, on the other hand, stresses the importance of the Islamisation for the Mongol tribal elite’s accustomisation to the regional and geopolitical historical setting during the troubled period of 1359‑1380s in the Jochid ulus.

I am forced to note that, to my great chagrin, the editors completely ignored my remark regarding the distortion of our reconstructions of the Arabic legends on coins during their layout of the article .

Despite Jebe Noyan's importance to the expansion of Chinggis Khan's empire, the Mongol general remains a shadowy figure. In part this stems from the absence of any biography of Jebe in the Yuan Shi and much uncertainly surrounds when, and in what circumstances, he died. Here the argument is made that the Novgorod First Chronicle provides a description of Jebe's capture and death at the hands of the Kipchaks during the 1223 campaign which culminated with the decisive Battle of the Kalka River. The silence and ambiguity surrounding Jebe's fate in pro-Mongol sources of the thirteenth century can perhaps be explained by a taboo surrounding the disgraceful circumstances of his capture and execution.

The paper explores the implications which this identification holds for how we assess the westward campaign of Jebe and Sübe'etei (1220-1224), often perceived as a reconnaissance mission, and how the Mongol leadership viewed enemies west of the Volga in its aftermath. This, in turn, sheds light on the preparations the Mongols made for their return in force to the region in the 1230s. Finally a theory is offered for why Jebe's identification was not made previously which illustrates the challenges facing researchers of the Mongol Empire.

As the largest contiguous empire in history, the Mongol Empire looms large in history: it permanently changed the map of Eurasia as well as how the world was viewed. As the empire expanded, the Mongols were alternately seen as liberators, destroyers, and harbingers of apocalyptic doom. At the same time, they ushered in an era of religious tolerance and cross-cultural transmission. This book explores the rise and establishment of the Mongol Empire under Chinggis Khan, as well as its expansion and evolution under his successors. It also examines the successor states (Ilkhanate, Chaghatayid Khanate, the Jochid Ulus (Golden Horde), and the Yuan Empire) from the dissolution of the empire in 1260 to the end of each state. They are compared in order to reveal how the empire functioned not only at the imperial level but how regional differences manifested.

В статье рассмотрено такое явление как сбор с жителей бывшего Казанского ханства отдельного платежа за пользование промысловых вотчин со странным на первый взгляд названием «тюменский мед». Выполнен анализ редких сообщений о данном платеже, и приведено предположительное объяснение такого названия. Согласно высказанному предположению, в выражении «тюменский мед» нашли отражение следы административного устройства Казанского ханства.

The article considers such a phenomenon as the collection of a separate payment from the residents of the former Kazan Khanate for the use of industry patrimoniales with a strange name “Tyumen honey”. The analysis of rare mentions of this payment is carried out, and the explanation of this name is given. According to the assumption, the expression “Tyumen honey” reflects traces of the administrative structure of the Kazan Khanate.

В статье рассматриваются исследования, затрагивающие проблему монгольского нашествия на земли Южной и Юго-Западной Руси. В последние годы предлагаются новые гипотезы, базирующиеся, преимущественно, на привлечении малоиспользуемых или новых в контексте данной проблематики источников; проводится ревизия уже устоявшихся взглядов на основе новых данных и переосмыслении хорошо известных специалистам материалов.
The author examines the latest researches concerning problem of Mongol invasion on the lands of South and South-Western Rus. The newest research topics, defined in the last few years, based principally on the sources, which were not used in the context of denoted problematics, are analysed. Hardened beliefs concerning this subject are analysed with the usege of new materials as well.

В статье представлен обзор находок шахматных фигур с территории ремесленно-торгового района золотоордынского Болгара. Все найденные здесь фигуры относятся к абстрактным шахматам восточного типа. Общее число находок шахматных фигур и их фрагментов  составляет 42 экземпляра. Из них 15 – это фигуры, с высокой степенью достоверности определимые до ранга. Определение рангов еще 27 обломков фигур затруднено из-за их плохой сохранности. Представленные находки шахматных фигур свидетельствуют об укоренении и широком распространении шахматной традиции среди торгового и ремесленного населения средневекового Болгара именно в золотоордынский период (вторая половина XIII–XIV в.).

В данной статье, рассматривается один из основных и наиболее серьёзных, на сегодняшний день, вопросов относительно монгольской военной логистики - скорость передвижения армии. Автор работы, на основе анализа широкого круга, как отечественных, так и зарубежных источников, делает попытку реконструировать маршруты передвижения монгольских воинских подразделений по территории Северо-Восточной Руси в 1237-1238 гг.

In this article, we consider one of the main aspects of the Mongolian military logistics - the speed of movement of the army. The author of the work, based on the analysis of a wide range of both domestic and foreign sources, reconstructs the routes of movement of Mongolian military units on the territory of North-Eastern Russia in 1237-1238.

In 2020, the doctor of historical sciences V. V. Trepavlov turns 60 years old. The article describes the biography and career path of the scientist. Interest in the history of Eurasian nomads appeared in V. V. Trepavlov in his school and student years, and the first scientific result was his Candidate’s dissertation on socio-political continuity in the state system of the Great Mongol Empire of Genghis Khan. His doctoral dissertation was devoted to the famous history of the Nogai Horde. At the Institute of Russian History V. V. Trepavlov passed all stages of career growth, after graduate school he worked as a laboratory assistant, junior, senior, leading and chief researcher, now he is the head of the Center for the History of the Peoples of Russia and Interethnic Relations. For several years, he simultaneously served as deputy director of the Institute on scientific work. The main monographic works of the scientist of the day are briefly described.

From the point of view of migrations, between 1223 and 1320, two new
waves of population emerged in the Crimean Peninsula from opposite parts of the continent – the Asian part of the Mongol Empire and Southern Europe. The identities and their manifestation in the material culture of the Peninsula were influenced by the following: the ’Byzantine’, as well as the ‘Latin’ (Genoese) and the eastern (Golden Horde, Islamic) agents of growth. This period would end by the Ottoman conquest of Genoese Gazaria and the Principality of Theodoro in 1475. In the aftermath of these events, only two political powers would remain – the Ottoman Empire and the Crimean Khanate, dependent on the first. In the following period (the 16th-18th century) the ’Byzantine’ factor furthers its existence in the material culture of the Greek population (Romei) of the peninsula, subject of the Turks and Tatars; the ‘Latin’ factor would cease its direct devel-opment, nonetheless some of its manifestations would persist, mainly in city cultures. The eastern (Islamic) agent of material culture would further develop, reaching its peak during the 16th-18th century.

В книге представлена археологическая карта средневекового городища СолхатКрым, находящегося в Юго-Восточном Крыму на территории современного города Старый Крым Кировского района Республики Крым. Солхат-Крым возник
в 50–60-е гг. XIII в. как столица Крымского улуса Золотой Орды и начал угасать
с середины XV в., когда основатель новой династии крымских ханов – Хаджи
Гирей перенес столицу в Бахчисарай. В период своего расцвета Солхат-Крым
был крупным торговым, культурным и религиозным центром. В книге впервые
на основании детального обследования территории Старого Крыма определены
участки городища, содержащие археологический культурный слой, перспективные в плане археологического изучения, предложены меры по их сохранению
для археологической науки. Они важны для реконструкции истории и жизни
города, его отношений с государствами Азии, Африки и Европы. Также впервые
даны адреса и описания современного состояния, исторические справки и фото
всех архитектурно-археологических памятников Солхата-Крыма. Книга предназначена для археологов, историков, краеведов, экскурсоводов, преподавателей
и студентов, а также всех, кто интересуется историей Крыма.

Настоящая работа посвящена исследованию группы серебряных монет Токтамыша начала 90-х годов XIV века. На основании поштемпельного анализа дангов установлена хронологическая последовательность использования штемпелей и построена сетка штемпельных связей. В сетку входят штемпели различных типов – в общей сложности 6 типов аверсов и 4 типа реверсов, выполненных разными почерками. В легендах оборотных сторон при этом указаны три разных названия монетных дворов. Топография находок монет позволяет предполагать локализацию этого производства на Северном Кавказе. Возможно, это монетный двор Маджара. Время выпуска монет – 791–792 гг.х.

Features of the Coinage Organization under the Rule of Toqtamish (some results of dies’ analysis)

The present work is dedicated to the study of a group of Toqtamish’s silver coins of the beginning of the 1490s. Based on die analysis of dangs, the authors define the chronological sequence of dies’ use and draw up the grid of dies’ relations. The grid contains different types of dies: a total of 6 types of obverses and 4 type reverses made by different hands. At the same time, the names of three different mints are given in the legends of reverses. The topography of coins’ findings suggests the localization of production in the North Caucasus. Perhaps, this is
a mint of Majar. The time of coins’ emission – 791–792 AH.

Background: The majority of the Kazakhs from South Kazakhstan belongs to the 12 clans of the Senior Zhuz. According to traditional genealogy, nine of these clans have a common ancestor and constitute the Uissun tribe. There are three main hypotheses of the clans' origin, namely, origin from early Wusuns, from Niru'un Mongols, or from Darligin Mongols. We genotyped 490 samples of South Kazakhs by 35 Y-chromosomal SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphism) and 17 STRs (short tandem repeat). Additionally, 133 samples from citizen science projects were included into the study.

THE 1569 ASTRAKHAN EXPEDITION OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE ACCORDING TO RUSSIAN AND OTTOMAN SOURCES
Astrakhan was occupied by the Russians in 1556. After this occupation, various complaints were received by the Ottoman State both from the citizens of Astrakhan and Turkestan. The Astrakhan Turks complained about the Russian persecution and expected the Ottoman Sultan to save them from the persecution. In addition, with the invasion of Astrakhan, the road to pilgrimage to Muslims in Turkestan was blocked. Due to the Ottoman-Persian wars, the Turkestan pilgrims could not use the Iranian route as a pilgrimage route. However, it can be seen that the main purpose of the 1569 Astrakhan campaign for the Ottoman Empire was Russia, growing stronger after the invasion of Astrakhan and to try to prevent this by the Ottoman State. The Ottoman Empire also tried to build a canal between the Don-Volga rivers with The Astrakhan campaign, but this Project failed. This campaign under the command of Kasım Pasha in 1569, although no war was fought with Russia, resulted in disaster for The Ottoman Empire. Thousands of Ottoman soldiers died of starvation and thirst while retreating from Astrakhan to the Azov fortress. After The Astrakhan campaign, The Ottoman Empire left all the affairs of the Black Sea to the Crimean Khanate. After the devastating campaign of the Crimean Khanate in 1571 against Moscow, tsar Ivan the Terrible sent Ambassador Novosiltyev to İstanbul. Terek castle, which was one of the reasons of the Astrakhan campaign with the peace agreement between Russia and the Ottoman Empire, was destroyed by the Russians. The fact that the Russians were at war with Lithunia during this period caused them to make an agreement with the Ottoman Empire.

The second volume of this specialized continued collection of research papers “Glazed Pottery of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea Region, 10th – 18th Centuries” contains studies of mass archaeological materials — glazed pottery — from a vast region encompassing countries from the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Far East and Eurasian steppes, dated by the High and Late Middle Ages. The goal of this continued edition is to attract the attention of the medievalists to glazed pottery and, particularly, to introduce earlier unknown archaeological complexes with glazed pottery and results of various physical-chemical studies of ceramic clays and glazes for scientific discussion. The volume includes contributions from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Uzbekistan and is meant for specialists in history, archaeology, ceramic studies, ethnography, museum studies, history students and all those interested in medieval material culture.

Второй том специализированного продолжающегося сборника научных статей «Поливная керамика Средиземноморья и Причерноморья X—XVIII вв.» посвящён вопросам, связанным с изучением массового археологического материала — поливной керамики обширного региона, включающего страны Средиземноморья, Причерноморья, Восточной Европы, Средней Азии, Дальнего Востока и зону евразийских степей периода зрелого и позднего средневековья. Главная задача продолжающегося издания «Поливная керамика Средиземноморья и Причерноморья X—XVIII вв.» — привлечение внимания медиевистов к вопросам изучения глазурованной посуды, и в частности, введение в научный оборот как можно большего числа не известных ранее археологических комплексов, содержащих поливную керамику, а также результатов, полученных при применении различных методик физико-химического изучения керамических глин и глазурей. Цель исследования: проанализировать «Шуаб-и панджгана» как исторический источник по генеалогиям Чингизидов. Материалы исследования: средневековая рукопись на персидском языке «Шуаби панджгана». Автор рукописи-Фазлуллах ибн Абулхаир Али Хамадани Рашид аддин. В статье приводится авторское видение всех достоинств и недостатков перевода «Шуаб-и панджгана». Результаты и научная новизна: «Шуаб-и панджгана» является произведением Рашид ад-дина. В 2019 году оно было введено в научный оборот. Одно время данная рукопись находилась в библиотеке астраханского султана Касима (внук Ахмата). Существует две версии появления этой рукописи в Астрахани. Согласно первой версии (версия А.-З.В. Тогана), эта рукопись была подарком Мухаммада Шейбани другому астраханскому султану Касиму (племянник Ахмата). Согласно второй версии (версия Ч.И. Хамидовой), рукопись попала в Золотую орду в XIV веке во время похода Джанибек-хана на Иран. В данной статье была выдвинута третья версия, согласно которой данная рукопись попала в Астрахань из Герата в 1480-1490-ых годах. Дети золотоордынского хана Ахмата были племянниками Тимурида Хусейна Байкары и некоторое время проживали в Герате, где им могли подарить копию данной рукописи. При копировании переписчик допустил определенное количество мелких ошибок, что отчетливо видно при сравнении имен предков, родственников и потомков Чингиз-хана, а также Чингизидских эмиров с аналогичными именами из «Джами ат-таварих» и «Муизз ал-ансаб». Также отмечено, что без ввода в научный оборот критического списка «Муизз ал-ансаб» на основе всех 5 списков, невозможно проанализировать все ошибки и уникальные сведения из «Шуаб-и панджгана».

The unique authorship of the Risâle-i Tatar-i Leh, created in 1558 for Ottoman Grand Vezier Rüstem Pasha and Sultan Süleymân I by Polish-Lithuanian Muslim pilgrims and members of the Ottoman ulema, brings to light critical issues faced by one of early modern Christendom’s largest integrated Muslim populations. This document encourages further exploration of several aspects of the Muslim population of early modern Poland-Lithuania: the stratification of Muslim society, the ways in which both Ottoman and Polish-Lithuanian myths of origin and legitimizing narratives were combined to justify conflict between fellow Muslims and the loyalty of Muslim settlers to non-Muslim rulers, Polish-Lithuanian Muslims as a branch of the greater Islamic ecumene, the legal status and social hierarchies of Muslims in an emerging early modern republic, and the role of the Ottoman Sultan as the facilitator of the hajj  and millenarian world conqueror vis-à-vis Muslims residing outside of the dâr al-Islâm.
