‘Ignacio de Loyola’ star Andreas Muñoz meets the press

At the press conference for "Ignacio de Loyola", the first Filipino film to be screened in the Vatican, Spanish lead actor Andreas Muñoz revealed that this is his third time in the Philippines.

His first visit here was to shoot some sequences for the film. His second visit was a vacation. Now, on his third visit, he brought with him a very special entourage: his brother Omar, who also appears in the movie, and their parents.

"I flew in a couple of days ago and I visited Taal, so I had the chance to visit some provinces, but I would love to see more," he told GMA News Online.

"First time I was here, I was filming a few scenes and then I came back a couple of months ago and I had the chance to go outside Manila. I was in Palawan for a three days. I visited Coron and some other islands. I fell in love with them."

He even has favorite Pinoy dishes now: sisig, lechon, and pancit.

Filming and being Ignacio de Loyola

The 26-year-old actor has appeared in a number of movies, most notably Guillermo Del Toro's "The Devil's Backbone." He found that working with the film's Filipino crew was not very different from working with Spanish crews, with one distinct difference.

"Filipinos have lunch at twelve, we have lunch at two," he said. "We just worked out the schedule, but aside from that, there was no major difference. They were really international and very open."

He also noted that Filipinos seem to always wear a smile on their faces, which he said gives credence to the catchphrase, "It's more fun in the Philippines!"

To prepare for the role of the 16th century founder of the Jesuit order, Muñoz said that he read a number of books, visited museums, and studied paintings. He also consulted with director Paolo Dy to set the tone for the character.

Asked what he divined while portraying the character, Muñoz said that he learned the value of patience and silence.

"Ignacio de Loyola" is produced by the JesCom Films Philippines and features a Spanish cast. It was screened in the Vatican on June 14.
