At the end of the Second World War David Bomberg began teaching at the Borough Polytechnic (now South Bank University). Here fellow artist Cliff Holden founded the Borough Group in 1946 to develop and promote Bomberg's ideas. The group attracted artists and students alike and exhibited together for the first time in 1947 and remained active until 1951. In 2012 the David Bomberg Legacy – The Sarah Rose Collection of artworks associated with the Borough Group opened at London South Bank University, in the Borough Road building where Bomberg taught. Developed in association with Grant Waters, Art Detective Group Leader: South East England, East England and the Midlands.
