The Swarm 😮 Bees swarm when they feel that they need more space to grow their colony. When they feel that where they live is too small. It's their natural way to grow and multiply. Unlike what many people think, it is not decided by the queen but by the whole colony, which acts as an organism. The bees prepare by trimming the queen to flight weight. Then they start to breed new queens. When they are ready, they send out scouts to search for a new place to live. Then the old queen will leave the nest with half of the population. At first, they often stop in a nearby tree, like in the video. Later they will move to their new home. When they sit like in the video, they are usually very calm. You can go close and catch them, which I did. As a beekeeper, you don't want the bees to swarm. For several weeks there is no honey production. You rather try to find out that they are planning to swarm and make a split of the colony before they swarm. #honey #bees #beekeeping #thehoneyofsweden #swedishbeecompany #ecosystemservice #sustainability

Gang of thugs enter the campsite. Collective nouns are poetically descriptive, a perfect summary, in most cases. -Parliament of owls, (perhaps we need one), -Murder of crows, -Business of ferrets. When does a group become a collective? At this time of year we’re host to a flock of starlings. They aren’t thugs. -But it’s not a murmuration, -Much to small. -More of a large family. But they still lark about. Rising and falling in unison, turning sharply starboard, then heading off to the field for some grubs. Always sticking together, alighting at the top of the same leafless oak tree, where they can survey the area. -Currently the flock’s 24 strong. -They’re searching the area for nesting sites. -Ignoring the boxes we put up for them. Its a cheery welcome each morning as they chatter to each other from the wires. But the sparrowhawk is always in the background. 48 eyes are better than one. Anyone know the name for larks? #No4thFloor #24HoursInNature #NatureConnection At The Secret Campsite we’ve created a space where small business teams can meet together surrounded by nature. Spring is here 🌷 and birds are looking for cozy spots to construct their nests. 🐦 If you are going on vacation - remove your door wreath and cover your planters. The lack of foot traffic while you are gone, can convince songbirds that these are quite safe places to raise babies. 🐦 Open up that BBQ cover and clean It out - making sure the rotisserie hole on the side is covered. 🐦 Cover basement window wells with mesh. 🐦 Fix vent covers to your dryer, add steel mesh to cover the entrance to the chimney and any pipes leading into the house. 🐦 Fix holes In soffit, loose siding or missing pot lights. 🐦Get someone up on the roof if you live near the water or an area where gulls reside - to ensure there are no beginnings of a nest. These animals are doing what comes naturally, watching baby birds grow and leave the nest is a beautiful experience! So If you find a nest with eggs - in a less than ideal location … please give them some space in a few weeks they will hatch and a couple weeks after that, they will leave the nest and move on. 😊 #BirdNest #PreventionIsKey #DryerVentMaintenance #TipTuesday
