This Aluminum Carpenter's Square is a versatile tool providing a wide range of easy-to-read English measurement scales, tables, and conversions, including the new lumber scale, decimal equivalent table, and metric conversion table; formula for squaring a foundation; 45-degree, 60-degree, and 30-degree angle markings; volume and area formulas; wood screw gauge table; drill and nail sizes (common and finish); quantity per pound; and depth scale. This square is built with high tempered aluminum for maximum durability and comes with a buffed finish and protective lacquered coating to resist corrosion. The design features deep, embossed, long-wearing 1/8-inch graduations for long-term visibility; graduations and table information are on both sides of the square for added convenience. It's a great durable square. The numbers were very easy to read. I purchased this item as I am a new homeowner and I think it's perfect for homeowners to use when performing carpentry tasks that the wife gives you. Amazon had the best price for it. I like buying products that were made in the USA too.

On a side note, I'm not sure who shipped it, but they put a sticker on it that read Amazon but didn't peel right off. It was more of an inconvenience than anything.

After years of polishing and cleaning steel carpenter's squares, I decided to go with this aluminum one. What an improvement! It is easily readable, and, as you would expect, rust free, which make it essentially maintenance free. It would probably be easier to damage than a steel square if one were to abuse it, but I've taken reasonable care of it and so far have had no problems at all. If I were to need buy another square, it certainly would be an aluminum one!

Does the job! PLUS, this is far and away the most 'borrowed' never to be seen again carpenter's square ever! Can't tell you how many I have replaced over the years only to have them walk off AGAIN with friends, contractors, carpenters and others who consider themselves nominally honest. When it comes to Carpenter's Squares and needle nosed pliers, well... you know who you are :)

What I SPECIFICALLY LIKE about this STANLEY model is that it's lightweight, KEEPS IT'S SHAPE (unless jumped on and then thrown like a boomerang by an overwrought contractor), is easy to scratch my name onto, takes 'my colors' of spray-paint well - although neither of those efforts to declare ownership ever deterred a 'borrower' nor elicited a return.

Another GOOD FEATURE is that IT CAN BE READ easily UPSIDE DOWN and my PENCIL MARKS STAY WHERE PUT until deliberately rubbed off and it is THE PERFECT SIZE for what I need.

Only improvement would be a hidden tracking device.

I have one of these from about 10 years ago and when I received my new on today it felt much more sturdy. This new one is 25% thicker than the one I currently own. My original one measures 0.104" thick and the new one measures 0.128" thick. Same useful information stamped in the side of the square. My old one has seen better days and was getting hard to read. I really like the new one. I really see no need to order another since my original lasted 10 years. This new one will be the last one I'll ever need. Unless I loose it

This thing is awesome, strong and well built. The markings are exactly as you would want them, on both sides; on the inside the start from the inside corner, on the outside they start from the outside corner. The images uploaded by 'Sanam' on 11/25/11 show a completely different unit than mine (which I received on 12/1/11). On mine the number are not in black but deeply etched/stamped in to each side. The images that 'Sanam' uploaded show a unit that is marked in millimeters, not inches.

There's not much to judge on a device like this. It's aluminum, so it shouldn't rust. The markings are clear and legible. It is indeed square (90 degree angle).

But I'm giving it 3 stars due to the obnoxious label on it. It's 3" long and runs edge to edge on the long side. When I tried to peel it off, I only got a little bit of label. I tried a few more times with the same result. The paper is peeling off in tiny pieces, and the adhesive is still stuck to the square.

After a few minutes with a razor blade and goo-gone I'll have it off, and can use it happily ever after. But really, Stanley, use a label that comes off cleanly and easily.
