I grew up in California, so C&H was the sugar you used. It’s made from Hawaiian sugar cane and processed in a factory in Crocker, California (just northeast of San Francisco). It is the best sugar, hands down. Moving east, I had to settle on Domino sugar for all my baking needs. The white is good sugar, not quite as nice in texture as C&H but still good. I was also using the browns - light and dark. However, over time, both light and dark brown sugars from Domino have gotten progressively lighter - to the point that the dark is now the depth of gold that the light used to be. Thought I might be imagining it until I came across an old photo of me making with my boys. There was a bag of Domino dark brown sugar on the counter and it looked as dark as light molasses - reams darker than what is currently available. I can see the difference in cookies in particular - to the point that I had started using dark brown in place of light brown sugar in most recipes. Well, I decided to check Amazon and wonder of wonders! They have C&H sugars. I promptly ordered light and dark brown sugar. I compared them to my Domino bags when they arrived and there was a clear color difference with the C&H being much deeper and richer. It’s all I use now for brown sugars. If you’ve never used C&H, try it. You’ll see a definite difference in color and taste. White sugar isn’t enough different to make it worth ordering, but the brown is for sure the best on the market.

I purchased the dark brown sugar through what I thought was the C & H Store (as it it listed on the advertisement), I phrase it this way because the product look differs from the C & H Website (just looked it up). What I received was hard blocks of unusable sugar that had holes in the bags and had leaked all over the box and onto my counters and floors. I had also purchased the granulated sugar which did have sugar at the bottom of the bags (due to leakage), but appears usable. I found out these are not returnable or replaceable. I looked up the actual C&H company and the packaging is not the same as what the C & H real website shows. The brown sugar products have the pink and white Hawaiian Logo. The products sent and listed have the old packaging . I grew up with this sugar living in California and love this product. Not sure what is going on, but it is very disappointing.
