Andy Teach is a thirty-year corporate veteran. He received seven promotions during his career and was most recently Vice-President, Network & Cable Research at a major Hollywood studio. Andy is also the host of the new YouTube career advice channel, FromGradToCorp.

Andy was an unlikely corporate soldier when he first graduated from college. At that time, he delayed joining the corporate world when he and a friend embarked on a three-week, 1300-mile journey from New Jersey to Florida by bicycle. After that, Andy decided that "in order to beat the establishment, you first must become a part of it."

After his bicycle trip, he landed a position as an assistant media planner for a top ten advertising agency in New York City. He was promoted to media planner within six months. Andy then joined another advertising agency in New York as an assistant account executive. This agency specialized in motion picture advertising, which helped Andy later realize that his true calling was in the entertainment industry.

Andy then moved to Los Angeles, where he worked for a year as a production assistant for a television production company. He got his big corporate break by getting a job at a major television and motion picture studio in the research department, where he worked for over twenty years! Andy started at the bottom rung as a research clerk and rose to the position of vice-president.

A must read for all college grads...and others

Andy's books is one of the most thorough, honest books on this subject I have ever read. As a former college instructor I used to do a special lecture on this subject. This book is all encompassing. I have already bought an extra copy for a recent college grad and my boss purchased one so that she could share it with young, incoming employees. I also just sent a large chunk of the book to a former intern that I thought would benefit by reading the passage.

While the information is thorough, it is Andy's forthright account of his own demise at his last job that I found fascinating. He holds nothing back and there are many lessons in these stories as well and not just for recent college grads but for ALL employees. He not only admits his own errors but shares the lengths in which he went to keep his position and when he knew it was all over, it was a bitter pill to swallow. He also gets a chance to say that sometimes, the criticisms of his work and style were not justified.

As a 24 year marketing exec. who has been through a few difficult work situations himself, I could only admire that Andy put it all there in writing for the public to read. While I am not certain how much this will help his job prospects in the future, I think future employers will admire his sheer audacity for being so honest and realize he is one self-aware, dude. Bravo, Andy, for writing such an honest account and practical guide all wrapped into one!

Whether or not you plan to pursue a career with a big company, "From Graduation to Corporation" is a worthwhile read. The book provides insight on how to gain entry, grow and survive in today's workplace. Andy Teach relates real-life stories and often amusing anecdotes on how to contend with the challenges and rewards of working in a corporate environment. However, much of the protocol he describes applies to working at smaller-scale businesses as well. "From Graduation to Corporation" is a valuable guide for anyone beginning their career -- or even beginning a second career later in life. Human Resources would do itself a favor by presenting each new hire with a copy of this book.

For me this book was a dissapointment, but it could be because I had high expectations.

From the beginning, I must admit, the writer have exceptional sense to write headlines, my problem was with the content itself. How could you name it as "a practical guide to corporate word", when it was purely a novel of own experiences? I just think its utterly misleading with this title. Most of the "practical guides" are just personal stories from always one - your own - angle filled with general statements and judgements, but nothing really specific, scienticly proved.
And yes, I did read the introduction statement regarding that the content will demonstrate the author's own experiences, but then again, why giving this title?

I gave 2 stars because despite it was not what I expected did have a somewhat interesting insight of the author's experience, although I firmly believe most of the take aways wouldn't really help in 2017..

Few valuable insights with plenty of mostly unnecessary padding. The anecdotal evidence presented in this book is well... anecdotal. Could probably use more editorial work as it gets repetitive in some parts. Considering that the author was actually fired at the end of his corporate career makes the reader question the validity of the advice given, not to mention its generalizability outside of the film industry.

I appreciate that the author took the time to comment on my review. I agree that my original rating was perhaps unfair and undeserved and decided to change it. The book does stress the importance of networking and getting along with your bosses and employees, and as such this is probably the most important business advice you can get.

This is a great guide for college graduates, and really EVERYONE working in the corporate world. Following the advice in this book at the start of your career will give you a "leg up" on your competition and co-workers. And, if you've been in the corporate world for a while and feel you are not where you want to be, or it is not as enjoyable because you feel you haven't had the success you envisioned, then put into practice what the author is writing about and watch your career turn around for the better!
The book contains great practical advice grounded in common sense and written in an easy to understand manner; and, the suggestions are easy to implement. All this sets this book apart from others like it that are typically difficult to read and whose advice is often difficult to implement. The author did a great job in making this book a very useful tool to help you as you work your way up the corporate ladder.
The author's numerous real life and PERSONAL stories and examples also help put his advice into context... here's what can happen if you do things the wrong way, here's what can happen if you do things the right way. And, the author's honesty and openenss in writing about the things he did wrong that caused him to "fall off the ladder" is something you won't find in other books of this type. Honesty breeds credibility.
Get this book, read it, re-read it, implement the advice, and you will have a successful career.
