The Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) accredited mental health clinic providing support through assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry and well-being services to the students of UT Austin.
Professional staff includes licensed clinicians from a variety of mental health disciplines including licensed professional counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers. Staff also includes post-graduate clinicians in the process of completing their licensure requirements, as well as graduate students in the process of obtaining advanced degrees in psychology or social work. These clinical staff members work under the license of licensed clinical staff and are qualified to provide mental health services.
The Counseling and Mental Health Center encompasses the entire 5th floor of the Student Services Building, covering nearly 10,000 square feet.
In addition, CMHC CARE Counselors, who are highly trained professionals, are located within each academic school and college on campus. This means that students can easily access counseling services within their respective academic environments.
To help you navigate our facilities, we have prepared this detailed map that outlines the CMHC location (orange star) as well as the specific locations of the CARE counseling offices across campus (blue stars).
The concealed carry of handguns is prohibited in patient care areas at UT Austin, including those areas in which professional mental health services are provided. Because a significant majority of the Student Services Building (SSB) is devoted to patient care, the entire building is exempt from the concealed carry of handguns.
