The Substance Use Support Team is for students who have questions about their own or someone else’s substance use. We are a multidisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to your physical and emotional well-being. Whether you are just beginning to explore making changes in your use, ready to start making changes, or wanting to continue with changes you have already made, we are here to support you. The primary purpose of the team is to help you build insight into your substance use, provide strategies on minimizing harm related to your use, and work to understand how your use may intersect with your psychological and physical well-being. From there, we will collaboratively develop a mental health informed treatment plan with you in order to meet your goals. Call 512-471-3515 to set up an assessment.
When you call the counseling center you will be assisted in scheduling an assessment with a Substance Use Support Team clinician. The assessment includes an in-depth look at current and past substance use and is an opportunity to meet with a Substance Use Support Team clinician to collaborate on how to best meet your needs in a non-judgmental and caring environment. Referrals for on-campus and off-campus services can be provided at any time during the assessment process.
The Substance Use Support Team isn't the best fit for everyone. If, after your initial session, we recognize the need for medical supervision, or that intensive and long-term treatment is the best option for you, we will refer you off campus for this treatment. We give detailed referrals and offer support for students transitioning to off-campus services.
Whether you are joining the Substance Use Support Team for treatment at CMHC or you are being referred off-campus, we are here to support you. We'll provide guidance through the referral process so that you know exactly what kind of treatment options are available to you and how to access them.
The Substance Use Support Team regularly partners with the Center for Students in Recovery and SHIFT.
The Center for Students in Recovery provides a supportive community where students in recovery and in hopes of recovery can achieve academic success while enjoying a genuine college experience free from alcohol and other drugs.
SHIFT engages the community in dialogue that changes the culture of campus substance use from one of misuse to one of well-being.
