Client Reviews FAQs
-
- How do I review a lawyer or law firm that I hired?
The profile page for each lawyer and law firm listed on Lawyers.com and Martindale.com includes a link to submit a client review. Prior clients of lawyers and law firms can click the link to fill out the survey. The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to fill out. Client reviews should not be filled out until your case or transaction with a lawyer is completed so that your review covers your full experience with a lawyer or law firm.
- What does the client review score mean?
The top of the client review section shows the percentage of reviewers who have recommended the attorney or firm, the average score of all reviews, and a breakdown of the scores in each category. Below this, you can see the details of each individual review including the date, the score and any written feedback.
- What is a Client Champion?
In 2017, Martindale-Hubbell introduced a yearly client review rating award. Attorneys qualify as a Client Champion based on reviews they received during the previous two years. There are three levels of awards:
- Platinum: At least 10 reviews, with an average score of 4.5 or higher
- Gold: At least 6 reviews, with an average score of 4.2 or higher
- Silver: At least 3 reviews, with an average score of 4.0 or higher
- Client Reviewed: At least one client review
- Can lawyers hide reviews they don't like?
Attorneys do not have the option of choosing which reviews display on their profile. Martindale-Hubbell, however, may remove reviews with inappropriate content in accordance with our policies.
We also offer attorneys the option to suppress their peer reviews. However, when reviews are suppressed, our websites clearly state "This lawyer has chosen not to display the review(s) provided by their clients."
- What does it mean if a lawyer does not have client reviews?
Attorneys are not required to have client reviews, and some may not have reviews due to how long they have practiced, or other reasons unrelated to their legal ability. Not having client reviews should not be held against a lawyer.
- Can a lawyer or law firm find out who submitted a review?
Martindale-Hubbell's client review process is confidential. Client Reviewers provide their name and email address when submitting the form for administrative purposes, but the reviews are anonymous and this information does not display on our websites. Martindale-Hubbell does not disclose this information if requested by a lawyer or law firm*, however information provided in the review may allow the lawyer, law firm or other individual to determine who submitted the review. We recommend that reviewers do not include personal information or specific details about their case in their client review.
*Although Martindale-Hubell endeavors to protect the confidentiality of the reviewer, in some instances, Martindale-Hubbell may be required to disclose your personal information, including as may be required by law.
- Can a lawyer pay to receive reviews?
No. Client reviews are a complimentary service we offer to the legal community. The reviews a lawyer receives and any award earned from those reviews is based entirely on the reviews themselves, with no input from Martindale-Hubbell.
