The internet and social media can get a bad rep in mental health spaces. Yet many organizations use these same technologies to foster community and remove barriers to care. The Northern Virginia Mental Health Foundation (NVMHF) provides access to virtual peer-to-peer support treatment and counseling through grants. Occasionally they even pay for clients' internet access, indirectly providing access to alternative resources and communities, and inspiring patients to chip away at the stigma of mental health struggles. “We get support from one another by sharing those challenges” — Lyn Tomlinson, board member, NVMHF. How has technology supported your mental health journey? #MentalHealthAwareness

Back in the days of the hot air balloon and bicycle, early philanthropists like Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller encouraged wealthy Americans to support social causes. Since then, corporate social responsibility to #nonprofit organizations has become a key vehicle for 21st-century profitability. Consumers expect corporations to be socially responsible, with almost half of a brand’s perception being based on corporate giving practices. To reflect this shift, 90% of S&P 500 companies now release yearly CSR reports. Still, corporate giving rates have declined by 44% since 1980. If nonprofits can’t build the right kind of corporate partnerships, corporate giving won’t reach peak impact. The solution? Strategic Philanthropy. When corporations can easily discover, vet, and connect with the right nonprofits, they’ll build long-term partnerships that create lasting social impact. Optimize your charitable partnerships and maximize corporate giving with the right tools ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eJf5zAsS #TrustBasedPhilanthrophy

“It's these experiences that remind you how much you take for granted—the opportunity to open your refrigerator and make a sandwich or a salad, pour a glass of water or juice,” — Letitia Petway Last month, Letita volunteered at Rise Against Hunger with her sorority sisters. Her chapter empowers its community through education, health initiatives, and economic development. Whenever there’s an opportunity to volunteer for meaningful projects, Letita is there to contribute. Letitia and her alumnae chapter packed over 6,000 pounds of food to send to Madagascar, an island off the southeastern coast of Africa. She says, “It is both an honor and a pleasure to give back to others, reinforcing the joy and importance of community support.” We’re so proud to have this #DoerOfGood on our team, championing organizations during the day, and in her free time.
