Even in very positive scenarios in which we manage to significantly and swiftly cut greenhouse gas emissions, climate change will continue to impact our world for decades to come. This means cutting down emissions is only one part of the answer to the climate crisis. We need to adapt so we can limit the coming impacts and safeguard people and nature. But what is climate change adaptation exactly? Why is it urgently needed? And what are some of the best practices from around the world? Don’t miss this great explainer via UNDP Climate. https://lnkd.in/e99KHKi8

Three myths about climate change adaptation. A good, quick read from Thomas Chakrabarti. 1. That it means giving up mitigation 2. That it is cost not investment 3. That it is impossible Should encourage climate humanitarians.

As the world warms, the need for adaptation becomes more crucial, given that life has to continue. Both human society and nature has to adapt to climate change. Increased mitigation immediately lowers adaptation needs because less emissions equals less warming. But that's not where we are headed currently, unfortunately. So what exactly is adaptation and how does it work? Read my post for more: #adaptation #climatechange #climateaction https://lnkd.in/dBDUgDx

Ever heard of national adaptation plans? COP 27 last year was mainly focused on adaptation and implementation because climate change is already here with us. So in every way, we have to learn to deal with a changing climate which includes primarily forecasting and predicting climate events, then modelling their butterfly effect on every sector of the economy, human life and ecosystems, in order to better prepare. The very extremes of climate shocks are beyond adapting for, which is what is called loss and damage. All important. So let's start with adaptation today. #adaptation #climatechange #climateaction #climateeducation https://lnkd.in/dBDUgDx

In UNDP's latest back-to-basics explainer, they explore why #ClimateChangeAdaptation is becoming increasingly critical for mitigating the worst effects of the climate crisis. These adaptation measures need to happen at every level, from international organizations to rural communities, in order to build #GlobalResilience to extreme weather and protect fragile ecosystems.
