Zusammenfassung
Vergleichen ist eine der gängigsten und gleichzeitig eine der am wenigsten reflektierten Vorgehensweisen in der Geographie. ’London hat mehr Firmenhauptsitze als Paris‘, ’das Umland wächst nicht mehr schneller als die Kernstadt‘, ’wie in der Stockholmer Sjöstad wird die Hamburger HafenCity zu einem neuen Stadtteil‘ – solche und ähnliche Feststellungen gehören zum ständigen Repertoire geographischer Analysen. Eine Methoden- und Methodologiediskussion über Absichten, Möglichkeiten und Bedeutungen solch vergleichender Gegenüberstellungen wird allerdings kaum geführt.
