본 연구는 기혼자녀들의 경제적 지원, 세대 간 근거리 거주 여부 및 중고령 부모의 우울감 간의 관련성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 고령화연구패널 5차(2014년) 자료를 활용하였으며, 연구대상자는 1) 모든 자녀가 기혼 상태이고, 2) 배우자와 함께 살거나 혼자 사는 단독가구의 중고령 부모 총 1,191명이다. 회귀분석을 통해 확인한 결과, 중고령 부모의 우울감에 대하여 기혼아들(들)과 기혼딸(들)의 경제적 지원 여부와 근거리 거주 여부는 상호작용 효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 기혼아들(들)이 경제적 지원을 할 때, 근거리에 기혼딸이 적어도 한 명 이상 거주하고 있을 때 중고령 부모의 우울감이 더 낮았다. 그러나 중고령 부모의 우울감에 대하여 기혼아들(들)과 기혼딸(들)의 경제적 지원 금액과 근거리 거주 여부는 상호작용 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 근거리에 기혼자녀가 없는 중고령 부모는 기혼딸(들)에게 경제적 지원을 많이 받을수록 우울감이 낮지만, 근거리에 적어도 한 명 이상 기혼딸이 있는 중고령 부모는 기혼딸(들)에게 경제적 지원을 많이 받을수록 우울감이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 종합하여 봤을 때 한국의 중고령 부모는 기혼자녀(들), 특히 아들(들)이 제공하는 경제적 지원에 대해 관대한 입장인 것으로 보이며, 기혼딸(들)의 경제적 지원은 근거리 거주 여부와 금액에 따라 받아들이는 의미가 다른 것으로 보인다.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the connection between depressive symptoms in middle and old-aged parents and financial support and residential proximity of married children. The data from the KLoSA of 2014 has been used for this research, and the subjects of this study were a total of 1,191 middle and old-aged parents living alone or with their spouses whose children were all married. The results were calculated through regression analysis and are as follows. There was no effect of the interaction on parents’ depression between married sons and daughters financial support and residential proximity. In other words, the parents, whose married sons supported them financially and whose daughters that live close at hand, showed a low level of depressive symptoms. However, it turned out that the amount of financial assistance from married children has an interactive effect on the depression of parents. In the case of having no married children living nearby, the more financial assistance from married daughters the parents received, the lower level of depression they showed. In the case of having married daughters living nearby, the more financial support from daughters the parents received, the higher level of depression they showed. In conclusion, Korean middle and old-aged parents showed a generous attitude toward married children, especially sons, and the financial support from married daughters seems to have different meanings depending on residential proximity and the amount of financial support.
