Amid organizational turmoil Savannah Gankiewicz crowned New Miss USA
In a surprising turn of events, Miss Hawaii USA Savannah Gankiewicz, who was initially the first runner-up at the 2023 Miss USA pageant, has now been crowned Miss USA. This unexpected twist comes amidst significant upheaval within the organization. The 28-year-old was officially crowned by Hawaii Governor Josh Green in a ceremony held in Honolulu, marking a significant moment in her pageant journey.

Gankiewicz steps into the role following the unexpected resignation of Noelia Voigt, who cited mental health reasons for stepping down. However, Voigt's resignation letter to the Miss Universe organization revealed deeper issues, accusing CEO Laylah Rose of fostering a "culture of fear and control." Voigt alleged that the Miss USA management frequently neglected to arrange adequate travel accommodations and failed to provide an "effective handler," leading to an incident of sexual harassment during a Christmas parade in Sarasota, Florida.

Just two days after Voigt's departure, Miss Teen USA 2023 UmaSofia Srivastava also relinquished her title, stating on Instagram that her values no longer aligned with those of the organization. As of now, the Miss Teen USA title remains vacant, with 2023's first runner-up, Stephanie Skinner of New York, declining the crown in a public statement.

Despite the brief duration of her tenure, Gankiewicz is determined to make a positive impact. "While this decision was not made lightly, I firmly believe that this opportunity was meant for me, and I am ready to make a positive impact with this organization that I hold dear to my heart," she stated. Gankiewicz plans to use her platform to highlight the rebuilding efforts in Lahaina on her home island of Maui. She also aims to assist the 2024 delegates in transitioning into what she hopes will be a new era for Miss USA.

Gankiewicz will hold the Miss USA title until August when a new national titleholder will be crowned from the 2024 class of state winners.
