Zusammenfassung
Arabisch-amerikanische Jugendliche sind eine der größten wachsenden ethnischen Gruppen im amerikanischen Schulsystem. Die Geschichte zeigt, dass Araber in Amerika seit Langem mit Diskriminierung, Vorurteilen und Stereotypen zu kämpfen haben, insbesondere nach den Terroranschlägen vom 11. September 2001. Kulturelle Stereotypen, falsche Vorstellungen und Diskriminierung begannen mit der Einwanderung dieser ethnischen Gruppe in die Vereinigten Staaten und haben sich in der amerikanischen Gesellschaft, auch im Bildungssystem, tief verwurzelt. Die Auswirkungen dieser Erfahrungen auf die Araber in Amerika werden wahrscheinlich schwerwiegende Folgen haben, insbesondere für die arabische Jugend, die gerade beginnt, ihre Identität und ihr Wohlbefinden zu entwickeln. Ziel dieses Kapitels ist es daher, einen narrativen Überblick über die Literatur zu den Beziehungen zwischen Diskriminierung und verschiedenen Aspekten der Entwicklung von Jugendlichen arabischer Abstammung in Amerika zu geben. In der Übersicht werden die Forschungsergebnisse zu Diskriminierungserfahrungen in verschiedenen Kontexten, einschließlich Gemeinschaft und Schule, erörtert, um eine breitere Perspektive auf die Erfahrungen arabischer Jugendlicher in Amerika zu bieten.
