An infrared search for very low mass stars : JHK photometry and results for composite systems.
Abstract
The author presents JHK photometry for ≡100 white dwarfs and 60 red dwarfs, obtained during a search for very low mass companions to white dwarfs. A simple modeling technique using broad-band colors is presented and used to deconvolve apparent composites. Individual stars discussed include white-red dwarf binaries, systems which may contain an accretion disk or subdwarf primary, and stars with no excess infrared flux. Astrometric detection of some systems is considered, and new possible proper-motion companions are listed.
