The surface water and springs of the Seversky Donets water catchment within Kharkiv, Donetsk and Lugansk regions have been monitored on major ions, nitrates and stable water isotopes (δ 18 O and δ 2 H) during high and low flows from 2013 to 2014. The research has been done within GNIR program of the IAEA. Results show the significant spatial and temporal variation in water chemistry and isotopes from upstream to downstream sites of rivers and low variation in springs. The isotopic signature of springs was close to the GMWL. The further research will be focused on the study of the nitrogen dynamic with δ 15 N in the catchment and LMWL description.

За результатами дослідження, нітрати мали високу просторову і тимчасову мінливість у поверхневих і підземних водах басейну р. Сіверський Донець. Середньозважений вміст нітратів у підземних водах становив 26,7 мг/л, а у воді річок - 6,9 мг/л. Винос нітратів з водою джерел в річки був оцінений до 3 т/км2 щорічно.
