The POETYK PsO study will give participants the opportunity to try a new investigational drug designed to block a protein called
TYK2 within their immune system.
Global janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors are drugs that inhibit the abnormal functionality of enzymes in the JAK family such as JAK1, JAK2, JAK3, and
TYK2. The inhibition of these enzymes helps interfere with the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, which has been found to play a key role in the development of various autoimmune disorders and cancer indications.
It is a JAK2-selective inhibitor with higher potency for JAK2 over family members JAK1, JAK3 and
TYK2. It decreased phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT3/5) proteins, inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptotic cell death in cell models expressing mutationally active JAK2 or FLT3.
