South Park Transphobia

TLDR: people say the show is transphobic, and I (as a trans person) don't think it is. I think people just want to use that to ignore the good messages or get offended over things. Anyone else's thoughts are appreciated.

I've seen so many people claim that the show is transphobic and bigoted because of Garrison, his detransition, and the way he was treated at the time. That's not okay BUT at the time, I don't think it was really that bad compared to other things they've done. Besides, all the kids refer to her as Ms. Garrison when she's transitioned and everyone eventually did come around to it (which is fair cause it is a small mountain town that used to not be so progressive, as we all know).

You have episodes like when Cartman claims to be trans so he can get his own bathroom and where "Heather Swanson" does the whole "man pretending to be a woman to win at athletics." I always see those as points that people WILL try to fake being trans for weird goals, but they do preach acceptable and shit at the end of both.

Overall, as a trans person, I don't see the show as being transphobic. It's had its moments but I don't think that really matters in the grand scheme of things. It just makes me mad that people have to dog on the show and ignore all the good messages it has.

To me, they turn everything into an extreme and target everyone to make their points, so I don't see why some people are offended when they do that to everyone. Matt and Trey don't come off as bigoted to me either.

Anyone else have an opinion on this that they'd like to share?

Also, sorry if this comes off as ranty or is formatted weird. I'm on mobile and just wanted to type this up quick to get it out there.

EDIT cause everyone is saying the same stuff so here:

  1. I know it's satire, that's part of my point

  2. I don't think it's transphobic and I actually think the show itself is really queer friendly

  3. Another part of my point is that they make fun of everyone which is why it's okay to include trans people, cause we are a part of everyone

  4. imo the point of the show is to just make everything into an exreme to show how ridiculous the world is. Anyone taking offense is lame.
