Bonta came to us with dollops of potential, and an appetite for change. Based in Bend, Oregon, their independent creamery uses farm-fresh ingredients from across the Pacific North West. This is our second project working in collaboration with entrepreneur-owner Corey Owens who bought the creamery just over a year ago. Corey felt that the existing identity was dated and saw an opportunity to harness the unique spirit of Bonta’s hometown. Drawing inspiration from Bend’s reputation as a haven for ‘in the know’ outdoor enthusiasts, we helped rejuvenate the brand with a new positioning: Gelato from the Great Outdoors. The visual identity exudes a minimalist charm punctuated by bursts of colour and brought to life through offbeat, flavour depicting illustrations, nestled in nature photography and gelato inspired topo patterns of local landmarks. The tone of voice is warm, laid back and upbeat. The new brand gives Bonta a strong sense of provenance, a bold modernity and above all a charming playfulness that captures the essence of their hometown. This is gelato, best enjoyed outside!
