During the 16th century, the foreign policy of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany shows a growing interest in the territories next to the Danube and along the Adriatic coast, between the Habsburg Empire and Ottoman Empire, and takes advantage of relationships that Florence had previously established with this part of the continent. At the end of the century, we have the golden era of relations between Tuscany and the Romanian countries, which at the time are in the centre of the anti-Ottoman crusade. But in previous decades, even the relationships with the Republic of Ragusa were excellent and recorded the presence of personalities from the Florentine families closer to the Medici court.

Gregory of Nyssa’s Laudatio altera S. Stephani Protomartyris (CPG 3187) has been critically published by Lendle from the two extant copies of the long recension, mostly disregarding the unique Greek witness of a short form which is attributed to John Chrysostom. Following the unveiling of an Armenian translation of the short recension, also attributed to Chrysostom, the paper examines its critical role, its links with the short Greek form and proposes a revision of Lendle’s text.

In this study, it is analyzed the correspondence of some humanists of the 15th century in which there are significant mentions of the works attributed to John Chrysostom. It starts with Ambrogio Traversari whose correspondence is the most plentiful of information; it continues with dedicatory letters of translators such as Giovanni Tortelli, Teodoro Gaza, Lilio Libelli, Lorenzo Giustiniani, Lauro Quirini, Francesco Griffolini, Pietro Balbi, Cristoforo Persona, Andrea Brenta and Lorenzo Lippi, but in particular, to follow the events of the Latin translation of the Epistola ad Cyriacum, we have the letters of Enea Silvio Piccolomini (Pope Pio II).

--- The book has as its objective the analysis of the multiple relations between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Transylvanian Principality for more than a century and a half (1540-1699). Past the time when the city of Florence had tied close relations with the Kingdom of Hungary, during the sixteenth century some Italians reached the Principality of Transylvania, continuing to maintain relations with Tuscany. The golden era in the history of these relations arises at the end of the century, when the Genga brothers, in the early stages of the Long War (1593-1596), played a major role, ensuring diplomatic relations at least among three courts: Medicean, Transylvanian and Pontifical.
