Universities and colleges have started focusing on how to encourage their faculty member to write and publish research papers in all different sectors. This study highlights the challenges that faculty members face and which hinder them from conducting scientific research papers at one promising educational college in the region, Bahrain Teachers College, University of Bahrain. The data collected using a questionnaire that was sent to all faculty members across different academic divisions. The sample consisted of 28 faculty members of different academic ranks. The results showed that faculty members have the competence to do and publish research. However, they indicated that they need more time which, they believe, can be gained through reducing the teaching load.

La presente investigación realiza una revisión pormenorizada de los principales espacios de divulgación de investigaciones sobre educomunicación y media literacy en Iberoamérica, tomando como referencia revistas de alto impacto (JCR/Scopus), publicaciones en índices emergentes (ESCI), publicaciones históricas de reconocida trayectoria, y congresos de referencia internacional. En el ámbito de las revistas científicas de alto impacto se evidencian espacios reducidos para la publicación en español, lo que deviene en altas tasas de rechazo. Sin embargo, algunas revistas del Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) han mejorado su posicionamiento relativo, cogiendo el testigo de la temática de educomunicación. Asimismo, se revisan algunas publicaciones históricas de la comunicación y la educación, como la Revista Comunicar, especialista en la materia, Chasqui, Estudios Venezolanos de la Comunicación, Contratexto y Comunicação & Educação, algunas con más de 50 años de existencia. Se concluye con una enumeración de los principales congresos internacionales de la temática, para ofrecer, en definitiva, una especie de mapping sobre los principales espacios de difusión de esta temática en nuestro idioma.

The book describes the events in the 100 years after the fall of the meteorite near the Avče village in the Soča Valley.
The expert monograph on the first Slovene meteorite acquaints us with meteorites in general and specifically with the fall of the iron-nickel meteorite near the Avče village in the Soča Valley (western Slovenia) on March 31st 1908, and its subsequent history until 2008.
The Avče meteorite was almost completely forgotten in Slovenia until 2007. The authors nevertheless succeeded in gathering in a relatively short time a surprisingly rich collection of texts and illustrations.
This meteorite was mentioned in only three Slovene publications in the 100 years since its fall in 1908: in a textbook by Leopold Poljanec a professor in Maribor (Mineralogy and Geology, Celovec 1909), in an article by Rajko Pavlovec On the meteorites in our country (Življenje in tehnika 12, 1962, p. 392) and in an article by Milan Ilić entitled Thousand pieces fallen from the space (Delo 43, 2001, no. 134, p. 12).
Especially valuable are the numerous newspaper notices from April 1908, completely unknown until now, and the testimonies of the locals.
Thanks to the testimony of the grandson of the owner of the land parcel where the meteorite fell, the exact place of its fall is known, which is only a half hour walk from the village.
The wrong coordinates still appear in the Meteoritical Bulletin Database, which mark a site near the Neblo village in Goriška Brda on the right bank of the Soča river as the place of the fall (http://tin.er.usgs.gov/meteor/metbull.php).
Both articles on the Avče meteorite, written in German by Friedrich Martin Berwerth, the director of the Mineralogical-Petrographic Department of the Natural History Museum in Vienna, and published in 1908 (Über den Niederfall eines Eisenmeteoriten bei Avče im Isonzotale) and in 1909 (Ein österreichisches Meteoreisen), are reproduced and translated into Slovene, as is the chapter in V. F. Buchwald's Handbook of iron meteorites (1975: Avče, Slovenia, Yugoslavia).
The bibliography shows that in the long period from 1908 to 2007, the Avče meteorite was mentioned or presented in 28 bibliographic units, published almost entirely outside Slovenia, and in the years 2007 and 2008 it was mentioned in 24 bibliographic units, published almost entirely in Slovenia.

Publications about monuments to fighters and victims of the Second World War in Yugoslavia began to appear in the late 1950s. They were dedicated to one or more monuments or memorial complexes. Over time, in tourist guides, among other sites, monuments and memorials began to be presented as a significant place worth a visit. During the second half of the 1970s, printing of special tourist guides dedicated only to monuments and memorial complexes started. Because of the popularity of monuments, a sticker album was also printed. The intention behind printing such publications was to inform citizens about monuments, but there was also an ideological side to it. Through books about monuments, the state and the Communist party wanted to emphasize again Yugoslav war efforts and the sacrifice that was made during the war. They used it as a propaganda tool in youth education, foreign diplomacy and overall state propaganda about the role of Yugoslav partisans, under the leadership of the Communist party, in the victory against fascism.

UNITED AIRLINES AND ITS “CONTRACT OF CARRIAGE”

On April 9th, a video showing police officers forcibly dragging a passenger off a United Airlines flight sparked outrage on social media.  United asked for four volunteers in order to make room for United employees after passengers had been boarded and seated on the flight.  The selected passenger, Dr. David Dao, was a 69 year-old Asian American doctor. He refused to leave the plane since he was seeing patients the following morning, and he was then removed off the plane by force.

Under federal rules, commercial airlines are governed by a contract, referred to as the “Contract of Carriage” or COC.  A COC imposes legal duties upon carriers and protects the legal rights of passengers.  In justifying its actions removing Dr. Dao from the plane, United Airlines cited Rule 25 in its COC which is titled “Denied Boarding Compensation”.  The United COC’s Rule 25 applies when a passenger is denied boarding.  When there is an oversold United Airlines flight that originates in the U.S. or Canada, United can seek volunteers.  If there are not enough volunteers, other passengers may be denied boarding involuntarily in accordance with United’s boarding priority, but United provides transportation and compensation to the involuntarily denied passengers.  Plainly, this Rule does not seem to apply to the involuntary removal off a plane or to a refusal to transport once a passenger has boarded a plane – in other words, to the circumstances of this case.

Rule 21 in the United COC, entitled “Refusal of Transport” covers circumstances when a passenger who has already boarded a plane can be removed.  Under Rule 21, United has the right to refuse to transport or remove from the aircraft at any point any passenger for concerns such as unruly behavior, intoxication, inability to fit into one seat, and the like.  But Rule 21 does not seem to discuss overbooking or removal of passengers to satisfy United’s need for additional seats.  It follows that passengers may not be removed from a plane for any reason not listed in Rule 21.  In short, the legal basis under which United Airlines forcibly removed Dr. Dao off their plane is unclear and perhaps even questionable.

The video showing the manner in which Dr. Dao was removed off the plane sparked outrage in China.  Within four days, Dr. Dao’s story was read 910 million times on Weibo, China’s Twitter.  They analyzed and criticized United’s lottery system for selecting volunteers.

Social media and the Internet magnify our voices by making it easier and faster to attract public attention compared to other forms of communication.  The Internet which serves as the backbone of social media is international, and it is easy and cheap to mobilize massive public attention.

Airlines operating between the U.S. and China are very profitable.  In 2016, visitors between the U.S. and China increased 17% compared to 2015.  Many international airlines are attracted to China’s second-tier and third-tier cities.  United Airlines is one of them.  United’s share of the air travel market from China to the U.S. is about 20%, and United cooperates with China Airlines for internal air transportation in China.But this incident may seriously damage its reputation in China.

Dr. Dao settled his case against United, and so we will not know how a court would have interpreted the Rules in United’s Contract of Carriage,as applied to this incident.  It will be interesting to see if, going forward, United decides to modify the terms of its COC.

In this sense, this research aims to analyze the degree of influence and relationship between Branded Content and the social media consumer interactions of the luxury fashion firm Manolo Blahnik in the mentioned network. Although English is the dominant language of scholarly publication, many multilingual scholars continue to publish in other languages while they also publish in English. A large body of research documents how these multilingual scholars negotiate writing in English for publication. We know less, however, about the implications of such negotiations for other languages that scholars work in. We wanted to investigate trends in writing conventions in language other than English during a period when multilingual publication patterns have been common. Specifically, we examined changes in rhetorical patterns in the introduction sections of the 1994 and the 2014 volumes of three Norwegian-language journals in three different disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The popular media's influence on social norms with respect to people's appearance is likely to have played a part in the recent growth of cosmetic dentistry. This study was designed to investigate the manner in which the popular media have affected the perception and delivery of aesthetic dentistry in New Zealand. A nationwide survey was posted to a random sample of 600 general dental practitioners (GDPs) requesting sociodemographic details and information on the types of aesthetic dental procedures provided and the demand for those. This paper looks into the contribution of Architektoniki, the architectural magazine whose eminent Greek architekt Kostas Kitsikis was director between 1957 and 1967, in the esthetic and typological development of post-war polykatoikia apartment buildings.

A partir de documentos originales de la Fondation Le Corbusier de París, este trabajo se propone catalogar, ordenar y analizar las fotografías iniciales de la Villa Savoye (1929-30), gestionadas por el mismo Le Corbusier, realizadas durante las obras o justo al final de estas, y que se utilizaron en las publicaciones de los años treinta. En primer lugar se han localizado todas las fotografías conocidas, en el archivo o en las ediciones. A través de indicios como el estado de las obras, el acondicionamiento interior o la dirección de las sombras, se ha clarificado la fecha y la autoría de cada imagen. Se han agrupado según los diferentes reportajes y se han ordenado las principales revistas y libros de la época donde aparecieron. También se proponen relaciones formales y conceptuales entre las imágenes, la arquitectura que representan y el relato que elaboraron sobre aquella casa.


This paper is based on original documents from the Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris. It intends to catalog, organize and analyze the initial photographs of the Villa Savoye (1929-30), managed by Le Corbusier himself, taken during the works or just at the end of these, and that were used in the publications of the thirties. First, all the known photographs have been located, in the archive or in the editions. Then, the date and authorship of each image has been clarified, through indications such as the state of the works, the interior conditioning or the direction of the shadows. They have been grouped according to the different reports and the main reviews and books of the period where they appeared have been ordered. We also propose formal and conceptual relationships between the images, the architecture they represent and the story they elaborated about that house.

Students are forced to adapt to the new learning modes, modular and online classes, of the new normal due to the Pandemic. It is evident that everyone has different motivational levels and capabilities that affect their academic performance and it also depends on the type of learning mode they are dealing with. The results of this study helped determine and understand the motivational levels of senior high students in the new normal. With the use of an online survey questionnaire prepared by the researchers, the students who were chosen to be research respondents were asked to answer carefully and honestly according to their respective experiences with their learning modes. The researchers assessed the experiences of students in both learning modes and how they cope up with the situation by investigating which factors affected their motivation and its causes, and how the low/high motivation levels affect the student's academic performance. Results yield that students who are in modular classes tend to lose motivation easily compared to online classes as it is difficult because they don’t meet with teachers to help and guide them in answering the modules, instead they learn on their own. It’s not only classes that affect the students but also other factors such as the internet speed and resources that they need to have so that they can listen efficiently in class. Teachers' attitudes toward their work influence their behaviors and performance in school. This study's main objective was to determine the level of work attitude of public secondary school teachers in a particular district in the Division of Davao Occidental, Region XI, Philippines, during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The sample consisted of seventy-six (76) public school elementary teachers. The researchers collected the data through a researcher-made survey questionnaire and administered it with the proper observance of ethical protocols. Generally, teachers are highly manifest a good working attitude during the new normal teaching setup. Results also revealed a very high level of teachers’ work attitude in terms of job satisfaction, job involvement and engagement, organizational commitment, and psychological empowerment. Finally, the study concluded with practical suggestions and research goals.

Research is important for tourism development in many countries. In Qatar, some tourism research has been published in scholarly journals. However, no studies have identified or examined the thematic, methodological, and authorship trends of Qatar tourism research. This study bridges this knowledge gap by reviewing tourism research on Qatar published in journals. Seven databases such as ScienceDirect, Hospitality and Tourism Complete, Emerald Insights, Scopus, ProQuest, Taylor & Francis Online, and Sage Journals Online were used to search and identify articles on Qatar tourism. Twenty-eight articles were identified for content analysis. The main results show that the dominant research themes/foci are sports tourism (35.7%), tourism planning and development (17.9%), and heritage (10.7%). From the methodological perspective, 68% of the data type was secondary. Furthermore, data analysis techniques, validity, trustworthiness, and research limitations were neglected by most authors. This paper also states the implications of these findings.

Research in social sciences is meant to change or improve human life. Indeed, due to the complexity of life today, research is one of the best tools for change, innovation, development, and progress. The Commission on Higher Education has recently been quite aggressive in promoting research production and dissemination in all Philippine tertiary institutions. In turn, educational leaders have put pressure on educators. While conducting research has significantly increased in speed in the past few years, the number is still highly limited for those whose research outputs make it into publication. Many researchers may have the passion for publishing but do not know exactly how to go about it. Some who have managed to complete their manuscripts have had them rejected by the editorial board. Everyone is trying to get hold of the secrets of the editors. This paper presents the synthesis of a study from systematic content analysis of academic journals from 10 leading research-based educational institutions and organizations. The goal of the study was mainly to investigate how these journals’ publications are aligned with the Millenium Developmental Goals. Findings reveal that there is a consistent trend in the areas where most publications abound, while other areas are left out. Additionally, practical steps to take in writing academic papers for publication are proposed for the purposes of meeting the real needs of people through research.

Graphic design faces the contradictions of commercial intent and social relevance. This study explores the contribution of criticism, in two independent, seminal graphic design magazines, towards shifting the dominant preferences of graphic design from a purely commercial pursuit to a human-centred practice. Emigre magazine (c.1984 - 2005) and Dot Dot Dot magazine (c.2000 - 2010) are recognised for their critical intent and within them are emerging critical issues that suggest a potential niche for graphic design beyond consumerism and commerce. In the discipline of graphic design, designers define what it is to be human (and thus equally the realities of dehumanisation) in very particular ways (Rose, 2001:135; Freire, 1993:43). Graphic design has a history of commercial practice. This commercial history continues to define its identity and reinforce a particular body of knowledge. Graphic design criticism, however, is an inventive voice that has the potential to contribute to change. Both Emigre and Dot Dot Dot were representative of a “constructive marginality” (Bennett, 1993:64), drawing from their own set of references and awareness of graphic design’s potential to inform their identities, instead of looking to established definitions of practice to do so. This analysis explores how they anticipated a modern conception of graphic design that has become part of a recently adopted (2015) and more widely embedded discourse. This discourse involves critical design that interrogates social and political agency, multiculturalism, interdisciplinarity, environmental sustainability and speculative futures. Graphic design engages social institutions and practices that denote social constructions of difference and inequality, and is never neutral. Any work, any representation of ideology, is at once individual and discursive at the level of social, cultural and political formations. The critical issues evident in Emigre and Dot Dot Dot, with the exception of an absence of speculative futures, anticipate a more humanising perspective in graphic design. They invite critique and the potential for change that is relevant to the surrounding world, as a counter to commercial self-interest.
