California residents: opting-out of the sale of your personal information

Because the term “sale” is defined broadly under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), we want to be clear about the ways in which we share information that may be considered a sale under California’s privacy law.

We allow Authorized Developers the opportunity to work with Geocaching HQ to provide a broader range of tools for the benefit of the geocaching community, and through the use of certain marketing cookies, we allow targeted ads to support the free use of Geocaching.com. Additional information is available in our Privacy Policy.

If you are a California resident, please follow the directions below to opt-out.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Choose Authorizations and check the “Do not share...” option to stop sharing with Geocaching Authorized Developers. Under CCPA, information we share with Geocaching Authorized Developers for the purpose of creating a broader ecosystem of geocaching applications and websites is considered a “sale” of personal information.
  3. Choose Cookies and select the option to withdraw your consent for advertising cookies. The ads that help support free use of the Geocaching.com website are also considered a “sale” under CCPA because the third-party ad networks responsible for the ads use cookies to help serve content that may be targeted to you.

You can also fill out this webform and ask to opt-out of the sale of your information. Opt-out using the webform may take up to 15 days. Please note: the webform cannot be used to opt-out of cookies.

If you are not a California resident, you may use the directions above to access additional information about how we use your information and the choices available to you.
