Thrilled to have attended the QS Quacquarelli Symonds China Summit for the first time and connected with international higher education peers and pioneers again. It was truly inspiring to see the dedication of educators, researchers, and administrators towards fostering mindset, resilience, emotional intelligence, and the industry. As a higher education marketer, I believe it's essential to rethink our roles and impact within the ecosystem. Looking forward to gaining more insights! #HigherEducation #QSChinaSummit

🌐 Explore Innovation Beyond Borders: The Triple Helix in a Non-Western Context 🌐 Are you curious about how the Triple Helix model of university-industry-government collaboration applies in non-Western contexts? Dive into one of the most cited papers in Triple Helix research: "Implementing the Triple Helix model in a non-Western context: an institutional logics perspective." 🔍 In this insightful paper, the authors challenge the common assumption that the Triple Helix framework for innovation is universally applicable. They delve into the unique institutional logics of non-Western societies, using China as a case study, to explore how these logics influence the dynamics of collaboration between academia, industry, and government. 🌱 Discover how the institutional environment in China differs from that of the West and its implications for fostering innovation. Gain valuable insights into the adjustments needed to optimize innovation policies and develop tailored Triple Helix models in non-Western contexts. 📚 Read the full paper by Yuzhuo Cai and deepen your understanding of how cultural and institutional factors shape innovation ecosystems and drive collaboration: https://lnkd.in/dPrej9Wp Let's broaden our perspective on innovation and collaboration beyond Western borders! 💡 #TripleHelix #Innovation #Collaboration #GlobalPerspective

"Organisations can’t learn and develop, or become more effective if they don’t understand what participation in a project is like. Value is more than a statistic, it's human, lived, highly contestable and complex." https://buff.ly/3Rqmmwb This post is adapted from a paper that Henry Mulhall (Cards on the Table) gave at a symposium in April 2023. The event, hosted by the University of Leeds, was called Participation: Norms and Storms. It aimed to explore how participation in art and culture is often mediated by societal norms, but also how terms like ‘co-production’ and ‘public engagement’ can become uncritical and normative within art practices. It draws heavily on learning shared at the Meaningful Measurement event we hosted earlier this year, so we thought you'd enjoy reading it. Estimated reading time: 8 mins

What is the Centre on Contemporary China and the World? The CCCW was established with the VISION of becoming a leading think tank on public governance, foreign policy, and global affairs in Asia and the world at large. What we VALUE is a world that is inclusive, not exclusive; enlightened and open-minded, not conservative and closed-minded; and fundamentally guided by global perspectives rather than narrow nationalism. Our VANTAGE is firmly planted in the renowned academic powerhouse of HKU: world-class experts and a multinational student body. We aspire to articulate the VOICE of peace and progress through academia, policymakers, influencers, and the public, based on a solid research foundation that is independent, rigorous, balanced, and outcome-driven. In this rapidly changing era, we are deeply committed to seeking common ground while respecting differences. Given the global headwinds of anti-globalization, securitization, politicization, and increasing polarization, we see it as our paramount responsibility to help eliminate misunderstandings, manage divergence, and empower civically minded individuals in the pursuit of international engagement. Check out our launch video for more!

We all agree about the importance of #public #engagement PE, relating to infrastructure or the inclusion of citizens for #resilient #cities. For a further lecture, I report here two studies on the importance of participation and PE: 1) How public #participation could improve public decisions on rail #investments? With Prof. Pagliara (https://lnkd.in/dk2Mfa9c) 2) The role of participation in #Italy, for INU Edizioni (https://lnkd.in/dxEmNkrK), with Chiara Vitabile, Valentina Grazioli, Chiara Alesci, Martina Ottaviano and Marta Ducci Certainly, great steps have been made, but there are still many difficulties in listening in #urban and #planning #processes
Join us on April 11 for an exchange of ideas with Vicky Brightman-Hahn, an international expert in science management, who will give insights into public engagement at Imperial College London: go.tum.de/315323 #internationalization #ScienceManagement #PublicEngagement

New month, new QS Insights Magazine. This issue is one of our more serious of the year, looking into some of the attacks against the #highered sector. In the cover article, Julia Gilmore explores the implications of the pushback against DEI initiatives and what universities can do. Our long read, and my personal recommendation, "An element of bravery" by Claudia Civinini, dives into how institutions can combat negative rhetoric on trivial matters. Rohan Mehra, meanwhile, examines research funding frustrations to discover challenges run deeper than discipline. Gordon Scott (IEAA-SF) also asks what universities can do to maintain social sustainability against restrictive government policy. It's not all negative, though. Seb Murray looks at how universities are transforming cities and regions around the world from industrial to knowledge and services economies. We meet another winner of the QS ImpACT awards, Niamh Ollerton tells us how to get ready for Gen Alpha, and Afifah Darke talks mobility and China. Read here: https://lnkd.in/gEkPwHBx

Which countries have the most doctoral graduates? Yet, the top 5 most innovative countries in the 2022 Global Innovation Index (World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)), are Switzerland, the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, with China being in the top 10 and India and Turkey entering the top 40 for the first time (Cyprus ranks 27th and Greece is 44th). Even though there is a level of synergy between countries that invest in "producing" PhD holders and lead innovation globally, those that perform better are the countries where doctoral candidates are recognised as employees (Norway and Switzerland), publicise research impact (Luxembourg), promote and absorb entrepreneurship (United Kingdom and Sweden), resulting in maintenance of high income (Switzerland and Sweden). https://lnkd.in/dF4U9Fiz More on WIPO's 2022 Global Innovation Index(GII), here: https://lnkd.in/dC-Yvvrp #innovation #researchanddevelopment #doctoraldegree #phd
