Ratna Pathak On Her Inter-Faith Marriage To Naseeruddin Shah: Not Once Did Anybody Mention The ‘C’ Word

Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah's love story is the kind of stuff made for Bollywood movies! The actress recently talked about her family's reaction when she married Naseeruddin Shah. She praised Naseeruddin's family for accepting her as she is without pressuring her to change her religion.

Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah have been married happily for 42 years. Ratna explained that at first, her father had concerns about their different religions. But she's thankful that Naseeruddin's family supported them and didn't make a fuss. She also spoke warmly about her bond with her mother-in-law, which has grown stronger over time.

In an interview with Hauterrfly, Ratna talked about her family's objections to her marrying Naseeruddin Shah. She said her dad wasn't totally happy about it, but sadly, he passed away before the wedding.

Ratna also shared that Naseeruddin and her mum didn't get along well at first, but they worked things out and are friends now.

She added that Naseeruddin's family never asked her to change her religion. Ratna said, “Naseer’s family surprisingly didn’t make a fuss at all. Not once did anybody ever even mention the ‘C’ word, convert. Nobody said anything about me. They just accepted me for what I am. I’m very, very lucky because I’ve heard of people who have trouble settling down. Afterwards, I’ve been friends with all of them, including my mother-in-law, who was a very homebound kind of person but extremely liberal in every situation.”
