A lot of tennis players have shifted their focus to pickleball from tennis recently and Eugenie Bouchard tops the list. The Canadian has been seen taking part in various pickleball matches which led to rapid speculations about his tennis career.
Bouchard once rose to as high as five in the WTA rankings in 2014 and thus became the only Canadian to breach into the top five in women's tennis so far. It seemed Bouchard had decided to switch his allegiance to pickleball but that hasn’t been the case as it stands.
A video clip on social media has gone viral in which Bouchard was seen practising tennis on the court in a full-fledged way. The X handle shared the video and captioned it, “@geniebouchard prepping for next week Zephyrhills W75 tournament, her first tourney of the year. Let’s go.”
Bouchard last featured in the Billie Jean King Cup for Team Canada and as per the clip she is now focusing on the upcoming Zephyrhills W75 tournament.
2014 happened to be an eventful year for Bouchard who was defeated by Petra Kvitova in the Wimbledon final. She also managed to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open and French Open that year.
Bouchard’s current WTA ranking is a whopping 346 and the 30 year old would be hoping to get into the top 100 this year. Bouchard's pickleball debut came at the PPA Tour Hyundai Masters in January and she went on to praise the game as she feels pickleball has grown in multiple folds in recent times.
“I’m amazed at the growth and I’m happy to jump on this train of something that is taking over, Everyone I know plays, everyone I know is obsessed with it.”
However, her recent antics suggest something otherwise as she seems to be very keen to reunite with her old love of tennis.
