An Ian Henderson goal earned a point for Colchester at Peterborough.
Ben Williams had initially saved from Posh's Craig Mackail-Smith and George Boyd, but Boyd poked in at the third attempt to put the home side in front.
Henderson pulled the visitors level when he collected a Nathan Clarke throw and looped a shot into the net.
The U's saw Lee Tomlin curl an effort against the post, while Williams kept out late efforts from Mackail-Smith and Charlie Lee to earn his side a point.
Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
"We never really got it going tonight even though we brought James Wesolowski in to give us a bit more bite.
"We didn't deserve anything more than the draw as Colchester were excellent, especially in the first half.
"We made a good start with George Boyd scoring early, but overall we didn't deserve any more than the point."
Colchester United manager John Ward told BBC Essex:
"I'm really pleased with my team, we can take a lot of credit for coming away and saying we want to attack and get forward.
"We've got massive respect for people like McCann, Boyd and Mackail-Smith, who I've said before should be playing in a higher league than this and might be next year.
"So for us to come and stand face-to-face with them as we've done and put on that kind of show makes me really pleased."
