Boyd pleased to equal Posh record

Peterborough United winger George Boyd says he feels honoured after he equalled the club record for consecutive appearances.

The 24-year-old drew level with former Posh goalkeeper Eric Steele on 124 performances after being named in the side to face Bristol City on Saturday.

Boyd told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'm really proud to match that record.

"Hopefully I can break it against Doncaster on Tuesday and get my name in the club's record books."

Boyd marked the occasion by scoring a late equaliser to earn Posh a well deserved 1-1 draw.

There appeared to be a touch of fortune about the goal - a flicked header which looped high over the keeper - but the former Stevenage man is adamant it was deliberate.

"It's only the third header of my career, but I definitely meant it - I've just tried to flick it and luckily enough it went in."

Boyd arrived at London Road from Stevenage in 2007 for a non-league record fee of over £250,000.

"I've been lucky enough to stay fit and my form has been good, but I've got a lot to thank the manager for as he's kept picking me," he said.

Boss Darren Ferguson, who made two changes for Saturday's game with Tommy Rowe and Danny Rose coming into the side, said he thought his side played well enough to take all three points from the match.

"I know I'm repeating myself, but we just need to take our chances and tighten up a bit at the back," he said.
